In fact Apple says that you cannot run any of their pro apps with rosetta so you have to wait for march anyway.
The upgrade price to universal binary is $49 but they also offer some other upgrades at really low prices. For example if you own a soundtrack pro or logic 7, you can get the full final cut studio package (worth $1299 or something like that) for only $199.
