I just find that they sound at their best for mixing on a stand away from walls and corners. Same with most monitors. These can deliver very deep bass, and if you have them on a shelf/table, then everything around them is going to rattle.

I have mine on a metal stand with a foam pad between the stand and the speaker to stop vibration being transmitted directly into the stand and the floor. Also having them on the stand gives me much more freedom to place them to minimise proximity effects with surrounding walls, corners etc.
