Maybe so, I guess a hardware compressor can provide a sort of insurance that a software compressor cannot; but it can be lived without if one deals with musicians (and vocalists too
) that know what they are doing.
I'm interested to hear the experiences of others on this topic as I am sure there is quite a variance.
