Sheesh...relax. My CC company (MBNA) calls it "ShopSafe". They let you generate a card number/exp/CVC2 from their website mapped to your account that (a) works with only one vendor and, (b) has a limited life span. This way, if the vendor's db gets snatched the info won't be useful for anyone else.
All I was complaining about was that the number I generated is only good for so long (four months), and if there is a significant delay in delivery it might expire. Don't worry -- I'm in debt like everyone else, and everybody gets paid.
(...and if the reader expended the energy to search for "temporary credit card numbers" on google, they'd get something like this:
http://www.google.com/search?q=tempo...t+card+numbers ...)
