you need some form of midi input be it some form of controller - preferably a keyboard - or a sequencer. Otherwise it won't know whether to generate sound or not.

programming glitchy sounds on your synth is one of the hardest ways to get the sounds you want. Use plug-ins. CamelPhat 3 and CamelSpace give great results.

Hey, just tried out the Wave Arts Power Suite... looks good, sounds great. You guys should check it out, especially the reverb. Much lower CPU hit than altiverb or ir-1 AND it sounds great.
