Virus C... am i correct in my understanding that it's EITHER Delay or Reverb...
...but not both Delay and Reverb at the same time?
|
That's correct. Although you do have a kind of psuedo delay and reverb (at the same time) when either the Rev+Feedb1 or Rev+Feedb2 effect modes are selected.
|
cool, thanks Timo!
ha, some things the manual makes extremely clear and others...not so clear. |
That's why I find a rack or otherwise dedicated reverb connected to #A or #B effects send on outboard summing the synths before they are routed into audio interface. Scored some rather cool and inexpensive now-vintage Kawai MX-8 rack mixers from early 90's that ALSO has a totally non-related to the audio signals, midi thru function on rear of unit: 1 midi in and 3 midi thru's--Kawai has always been a rather innovative company. The mixer is actually called a Keyboard Mixer with 8 channels or of course 4 stereo with each channel having two seperate effects send channels that can be panned any way you want, with the rear two different effects send/rec'v in/outs giving you the option for effects to be post or pre fader.
I mentioned this because reverb in my opinion is the most useful effect and there's so many types of reverb out there and this would leave us to use Virus C's Delay on synth and having a dedicated pre-DAW reverb frees DSP load on whichever DAW'(s) one uses and let there be MORE tracks without worrying about plug-in effects consuming really unneccesary processing power. A little bit of delay goes a long way...kind of like salt...unless you have two DSI Mono Evolver Keyboards, which can use delay to catapult you into alien dimensions...I love the Virus C and am slowly deconstructing all presets to the more ethereal as am not so much a trance genre person and the C cand B can do SO more; and with so many shallow people judging any given synth on presets, it certainly highly contributes to the stereotype that Virii are *ONLY* trance machines---kind of narrow thinking! Anyway, just a suggestion to free yourself and even an inexpensive Alesis Midiverb can sound quite good with synths. |
On the Virus C, does this absolute of "either Reverb OR Delay" carry-over and apply to a multi-set-up as in is it Globally across say 16 channels, "either or" or is that per track? Thanks in advance. The manual has me a bit confised on this issue.

In multi mode, the same settings of Reverb/Delay are applied to all 16 channels. If you edit on a "single" within a multi-setup, those settings will be used for all other "singles" on that multi-setup. It's one per patch, if it's a multi-patch, its for the 16 parts...
I think that's changed with the TI line, that those settings are applied per part... That's the biggest limitation of the Virus, compared to the Novation's Supernova, for example. But if you record one part at a time you get all the voices and you can specify those settings for each. That's what I'd do ;) Cheers |
Thank you very much! I will just work with one part at a time or rather, perhaps one part on the KC and one part on KB. I DO have a Novation Supernova rack (the first Supernova) and you are right, it has a VERY versatile effects per part. It's the 24 voice with new O.S.v, and am still learning the arpeggiator, which is really like a sequencer with different parts, midi channel (pretty sure). It's not like it's a negative on the Virus, as outboard effects can be used as a work-around on our incredibly versatile Virii! I just thought I better ask in case I was not doing something correct!
I rather have that DSP being utilized anyway for that analog "moog" ladder filter emulation as a trade off anyway, right??:D Thanks again! |

Not that I am of the belief that the Virus is totally co-dependant upon it's effects; holwever, on the Virus, kind of consider the effects just as much a block of tools in sound design as important as a fourth or fifth free envelope! |
