sound root, my sound breaks when i move octaves up or down
Hi, i need some help. I want to know how to change the root note of my patch.
When i have a sound and begin to move octaves up or down the sound begins to break or to sound phony, like in a sampler. Or sometimes it just sound betters in some notes. How can i do to stop this from happenning? Or for example if i want a bass sound to sound better in the octave lower, where do i have to go and program it or tweeek the virus. Thanks in advance. |
Hi there, my initial instinct tells me it may be the filter key-follow, or simply the cutoff.
The filter key-follow may be set to 'peak' on a certain note, and not on other notes. Or that it doesn't follow the keyboard accurately, if indeed at all. The effect is more pronounced if you have resonance applied. The filter's cutoff may also be optimised to 'peak' on a certain note. If you want the filter to follow the keyboard make sure Filter 1 and/or Filter 2 keyfollow is set to 100%. Then change the Filter cutoff for either filter 1 and/or filter 2 to determine the 'root' note. If you don't want the filter to follow the keyboard, just change the Filter cutoff for either filter 1 and/or filter 2 to 'peak' on the note you want. In your case, you want the filter for your bass to 'peak' an octave lower, so lower the cutoff until it does so. |
I have a feeling this might have to do with your programming of the oscillators. Sometimes you have for instance a bass patch, and it sounds wonderfully fat on the F2 say, but then you go up or down an octave and it sounds dull or thin. I would suggest you try experimenting with different combinations of Octaves between the oscillators, pulsewidth, and the different waveforms and how you stack them together.
The fullness of a sound has a lot to do with how you combine waveforms, and how they behave when you go up semitones. Sometimes their phases can cancel a bit, sometimes add up... so if I am correct in my suggestion to you, you will find that this problem doesnt occur if you have only one single oscillator playing, but when you add 2 together that dont comlplement each other across the octaves. |
