Jens lead tone on a Virus?

I do not know how many people here listen to metal, but I hope someone can help me. ;)

I'm looking for a lead sound simular to Jens Johansson or Janne Wirman in Children of Bodom. Janne Wirmans Wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janne_Wirman) claims:
"Janne's lead sound was crafted by Jens Johansson. It's a Korg Polysix emulation patch Jens made for the JV1080."

I've also found this article: http://www.progsounds.com/2005/08/21...ohansson-lead/
I must be an sound designing imbecile, but my attempts to replicate that have been futile.... :(

Help?

PS I currently only owns a Rack XL.

Try a mix of square and saw wave (only one oscillator). You can also try to experiment with ringmodulator. Then just add high resonance distorted lowpass with +32 keyfollow and off you go. Add twin unison for wideness, if preferred.

You can also try to set the filters in paraller, set the distortion stage filter to BP (keyfollow +32) and the other filter to LP. The add additional distortion at the effects menu.

Basicly those metal wannabe-guitar leads are easy to program, but digital distortion algortihms usually restricts the outcome a bit. An outboard guitar distortion, like BigMuff, would work here like a charm. That's the key to a good lead sound.

Thanks, I'll try that, and BTW I use Amplitube for the distortion! ;)
I'll guess I'll solve the live part later!

In that case leave out the filter stage saturation.

I'm still stuck with getting this sound right.
I've always been more of a keyboard player then a sound engineer. =/

I think it's quite simple...I used to play a Jensish lead, it was quite simple, a 33% pulse and a pure sawtooth, filter half opened, little delay, no reverb, HQ biased towards high frequencies and Analog boos at the highest frequency (you want it to cut through the mix, right?)...I think I used Hard distortion, or digital. the new stomp boxes could help, but the Jens lead sounds pretty warm and clean to me, so don't get too evil with those pedals :P

Actually, I got tired of it quite fast. now my leads are more dirty...or soft if needed ;)

I know that the original sound is a tweaked Korg polysix and I can get similar results on the Korg VST polysix, same thing with Clavia Modular.
I don't want to take a computer live, nor do I own a Clavia, so... =/
