How many of us are..?

Self-employed? I've been since 1996.

Teach English for business.

Use the studio to make a lot of audio materials, but most of my work is stand up comedy in front of people.

Had a recording job last week recording read passages from client's presentation notes but had to stop every 20 secs or so. Never eat cheese and onion crisps 5 mins before a take. Thank god for Sonar and slip editing. What's that called in Cubase?

I was a contractor all last year.
Was nice, but one of the companies that I contracted for made me an
offer I couldn't refuse.

One thing I miss is being able to take time off whenever I wanted!

I am self employed. Had an offer from a current client to go 'employed' - I refused and they offered me the job as a self employed consultant anyhow :)

I guess they had to try it on eh :)

I am fully booked now until the end of 2007 :)

Yeah I've had a few offers in my time. I sold the cars and started a 3 day week 5 years ago so that I could take the kids to school every day. I was the only parent that was there. Before that I was doing 6 day weeks, mad hours, making a shit-load, big house, 2 cars and that. That's OK, but didn't have any plan. Now I work 3 days and make same money but smaller expenses.

Kids old enough now to get to school on their own and I'm 45 and thinking about getting a boat, so it's watch out world.

Hey OVM - how did that recording job go you embarked on recently?

Old Vantaa Man 18.04.2007 10:50 PM

John mate. Went well. I did my best Stuart Hall impression. It's here if you want a laugh..

They cut it down to 20 secs on the ad.

;-)

I 'downshifted' myself 3 years ago from full time employment in IT to home consultancy. Moved to another city, less money, less hassles yet more money for the important things in life - including a virus. I'm 50 but should have done this years ago.

Cheers,
B

Oh ffs sakes Psymon. Fewer hassles. At our age there's really no excuse for grammar like that.
Unless you're fucking retarded.

FFS indeed, which part of "Teach English for business" did I not understand? Please except my humble apologies ;)
