The front side bus of 1.3ghz will be a great upgrade in and of itself.

Just surprised that the highest speed in the table is 3Ghz when I all ready have a dual core 3.6Ghz...

Xeons have had 1333fsb for a while now (using two here now.) Its nice :)

The actual clock speed isnt as important these days as the instructions a chip can run and the architecture of it. Thats the reason why the c2ds are slaying everything at the moment even at low clock speeds, they have a very advanced set of instructions and way the chip works stuff out internally is a lot more effecient than other designs.

Have you calculated how much your computer cost compared to a mac pro with xeon processors? Imo the 2.66GHz model is priced well.

A fair bit cheaper as I get good personal deals on the parts.

I also enjoy designing and building my machines myself, I have never bought a pre-made system so I would never buy a mac. I also dont like a lot of the components they use inside them. Every component I choose I have reseached and is there specifically for a certain job, not just a random merger of parts hoping they will cater for everyones needs. This also means any problems that may occur I can identify them quickly and fix them myself instead of getting some idiot to do it under warranty.

one thing I really like with most of the newer motherboards - you can pop in a core 2 duo procesor, overclock it, use it for a couple of years and then pull it out and pop in a quad core when they become mainstream (if they do)

Does this mean that you can mismatch 2 dual core processors to make a "Frankenstein-Quad-Core?"

I honestly am not too sure if you can do that. Most of the mobos that I have looked at (for core 2 and quad processors) only have one slot for one cpu. I agree that it would be very cool if you could do a dual (core 2 duo) type rig.

I guess only intel xeons can be used as dual x-core. Basic core 2 duos can be used only alone = 1 processor.
