BIG problem (Solved)

MY virus have gone nuts... it started after i installed sounddiver and fooled around a little. trying to backup my banks to the computer. Well that didnt succed. I got this sysex errors all the time... saying that it lost connection with the virus.. so i got tired of it and shut it down.
Then i played some and noticed that my virus distorts when i play many notes at a time and press them hard. and its nothing with the levels of the output.. its disting "inside" the virus. i havent seen anyone with the same problem here before, maybe its just some settings ive gotten wrong when i fooled around with sounddiver.. i dont know. But i do know that my virus aint what it used to be

I have a virus indigo II redback and heres a link to a sound i recorded.. when you here the dist.. thats when i press the keys harder.

Hmmm.......From what I see, maybe something to do with the velocity thingy??? Polypressure??? Im not too sure what it is called.....but maybe you have something set that the harder you press the keys, the patch volume gets louder???

Im taking wild stabs in the dark here, cos I am not too techincally savvy when it comes to the intricacies of the virus......

Hope you get it sorted soon. And do try to contact Access directly, as they are a friendly bunch that will be happy to help you out.

Cheers,

Jase

Do you mean when you press hard as in "Velocity" or after the intital press when you press harder again as in "Aftertouch" the sound becomes distorted? From the sound clip, it sounds like it may be Aftertouch - but the distirtion doesn't sound like one of the distortion effects in the Virus that's for sure.

Really though, neither of these setting should change from using sounddiver anyway. I'm not sure what could have happened here with that.

Have you tried re-installing the OS? This would be the first thing I would try.

As far as Sounddiver tips go, I don't have any. I haven't used Sounddiver at all.

It sounds like a horrible problem. Let us know how it goes.

Same thing happened to me. After messing around with sounddiver for some days I noticed most of my sounds were saturating, especially the arpeggios. Its like the unison, osc vol, etc... is at max, but it isnt. It really scared me.

As someone suggested, I reinstalled OS with default sounds and all is back to normal. Its a pain in the ass if you have many original sounds, as the will be lost unless they are intact and you save them individually.

Needless to say, I dont use soundiver anymore.

This Soundiver thingy........I dont know why people use it. It should come with a health warning. I used it once for 30 seconds......it didnt recognise my Virus kc so I just thought 'fuck that' and made myself a cup of tea.

Soundiver messed up Juho's sound set........personally I put it down to crap programming (its a joke!! :P ).....so soundiver can do some weird things :(

Good choice! (that cup of tea, not using SD)

So is your mother! I am rubber, you are glue!

For the record, I have been using Sounddiver 24/7 for about 100 years now, and I've never had it 'mess up' my sounds. I've lost a few patches by forgetting to back up, but for the amount of time I've spent using it, I can't complain.

Ben that just reinforces my point that Juho messed up his own soundset and blamed soundiver for it.

The truth is Ben, im very new to computer software and stuff like that (Music making wise anyway)....its very probable that I didnt set it all up properly. Ill try it again....properly this time.

I think I remember reading that all the issues with SD were somehow connected to the MIDI-interface used. It seems that SD is the most picky program ever. I think my bank mess up were caused by a MIDI problem in which SD worked in some kind of connected/non-connected mixup state. Sometimes SD recognised my Virus and sometimes not and the whole software acted weirdly.

Using SD is like a Russian roulette. It might work like a charm or it does something nasty.

I have found that Soundiver fails on "cheaper" or poorer quality soundcards.

I have used it with a Soundblaster and an Audiopphile 2496 and found it hangs / messes up all the time.

I recently upgraded my audiophile to a RME hammerfall 9636 and guess what Soundiver is rock solid and has never caused any problems since.

I think the MIDI timing of the soundcards is imperitive for Soundiver to work.

Anyone else notice this?
