Acid - Distortion

Hi guys,
Maybe it's me (probably it is) but I'm not really blown away by the distortion
on the TI, I can't get really sick Acid sounds out of the TI. I mean mad screaming self oscilating dirtyness.
If I compare it to VST's like the audiorealism bassline or the novation V station(or K station hardware) it sounds far more agressive.

If I use the standard way to make acid (as far as I know)
sawtooth wave in low octave, high resonance (added saturation in TI) and distortion (hard or digital in TI), a proper filter envelope or own filter tweaking i dont really get the sound i get in other gear.

If I try other distortion types it just get worse. sound gets destroyed in the wrong way.

I would probably just try distortion from outboard or even plugins. If you would like other Virus FX in the signal path (after distortion) then it's always an option to run it back in to the Virus once it's been distorted elsewhere.

try using the analog filter model rather than the regular virus filter, that one self oscillates.

also try using the wide distortion rather than the hard/digital

I've owned a lot of synths and one of the best features of the TI is the distortion section in my opinion. If your not getting the sound you want it may be your the patch your distorting. I can't see how you couldnt get the right distortion from all the options on the Virus??????I

Are you using oscilator saturation also.

The old skool method was to run a 303 through a boss ds1 . So maybe you could just get a nice 303 patch and pick up a ds1 for 25 bucks second hand ???????

I too agree the Virus is one of the best served hardware synths in the distortion department. I suggest experimenting with the distortion fx section and combining it with the saturation types.

HOWEVER, for truely gritting up your sounds it really pays to have a few fuzz plugins, or even better, snap up some real guitar valve distortion pedals on e-bay.
