what bitdepth at spdif?

Hello,
that says it all. I guess 24 bits since I've read that it's the complement of out1, but not quite sure about that so I'm asking...

do you recognise this patch, also being used in lab4's candyman? The second half or this thread is concerning that patch.

spdif is an unbalanced 16 bit/44.1 khz standard. i do not know about toslink (although i imagine it is the same) or aes/ebu (which i know is balanced but i do not know much else) or lightpipe.

but spdif is just the consumer version of aes/ebu. toslink is the optical version of spdif.

the spdif connection of the virus ti also supports 48kHz, that's what access' support told me... can anyone confirm that the spdif is only 16bits?

I think it's 24bit, I used Bit Viewer a vst plug to measure it. To me it sounds like 24bit, just A/B it with the USB. The easiest way to hear 16bit fall apart is to listen to a reverb tail through a compressor.

I have contacted access' support and asked about the bitdepth, and they told me that all the digital outputs, so the USB and s/pdif work with 16bits...

I allways thought bog standard SPDIF (or 'consumer AES' as I think it should be called now) was allways 16bit unless it was an enhanced SPDIF that supported the 'professional AES' protocol as well. (as found on outboard gear with digital XLR ins and outs)

spdif (sony phillips digital interface)

I've always found that amusing for some reason
