Music production and Linux

Has anyone found out how Linux goes with music production?

I've got an idea of 64-bit Fedora Core 5 with a Rosegarden sequencer or similiar. Everything seems ok, but somehow I got an impression that VST implemention is totally crippled on Linux. Is that true?

Nope. Haven't bothered to install any type of Linux on my main computer. Fedora Core 4 on this internet machine.

I won't install Linux on my 64-bit PC unless I'm sure it's worth the pain.

I'm pretty sure that serious music production on Linux is a non-starter. The only sequencer of any value seems to be Rosegarden which doesn't support VSTs.

I follow a project in the past called agnula... now I've switched to mac so no more linux or windows problems... anyway agnula was very very interesting as far as I can remember...

Why did you switch to Mac LEE? What couldn't you achieve on PC?

Share the pain, mate.

And you can forget about using external DSP cards...

If the music based companys would make the switch and start supporting Linux, I'd make the switch for sure! At the moment though, there aren't enough sequencers or hardware as Drammy mentioned to make it worth while.

Who knows what'll happen in the future though......

No Linux for me then. Got to wait for the Vista to get the 64-bit OS.
