The Reese Bass Lead (Drum & bass)

This is the potential of the Virus TI with unison and filters:

Bass Lead Reese Twissssss:

Simble LFO Bass Lead Reese Modulate with Drumin (Maschine)

Hope you like it ........

dude...any chance you of sending me that patch? its wicked!

feedingear 16.10.2009 01:27 AM

Thats a pretty cool start for a sound, but to get the really authentic sound youll probably need to bounce it down, split the patches, and eq/filter/flange/phase etc each layer to your liking to get it moving a bit more.

The one thing I really wish the Virus had was LFO stepping like in Massive where you draw your own LFO patterns. That would take the virus to a completely new level for me.

how right he is ....

Say the sound has been removed from virus resample and put in layers in order to kontakt LFO modulation. It is impossible to scar this sound so modulated directly from the virus without resample

Not bad at all! I was actually expecting cheasyness but you did well! I liked how it sounded on its own more than with the drums however. This patch, or a breakdown on how you made it would be very sweet.

Keep up the good work!

mitchiemasha 16.10.2009 05:30 PM

my norton says that site is on safe, the first link. let me use the second. Not sure why.

inforlk 17.10.2009 12:13 AM

I just made another reese bass drum & bass:

1 - Detuned saw/square waves for Virus
2 - Distortion
3 - EQ Phaser Flanger Chorus
4 - Export audio
5 - Load up the audio file in a softsampler like Kontakt

Now we "split" the channels. Some people like to do this with an EQ - I like to use filters for they seperate the frequencies more clearly. However, don't use too strong filters - I recommend 12dB/Oct.

Set the LP filter to about 150Hz, the BP to 1.500Hz and the HP to 3.500Hz. Now you have a low, a mid and a high range channel

...and Modulate Fiter LFO and Manual automation in you favorite DAW.
you will get a sound similar to the great as NOISIA,C4C,SPOR..

Demo:

what do you mean be split the channels? Like three different versions of the same sound loaded up layered together?

mitchiemasha 17.10.2009 05:35 AM

Think we should be getting some patch banks from you. That would be nice.

Will definatly be having a go at some of this although at the min it does still seem way overmy head.

synthfiend 17.10.2009 05:39 AM

very nice

this is exactly the type of sound I have been trying to program on the TI

would you have the preset :-)

If 3 versions of the same sound loaded with different layers to give the fat sound filter

the patch is creation itself is private

and new example:

Ive had a hard time with proper Reese Basses on the TI but here are my examples-

http://two.xthost.info/shortbus/DNB%20Sqarereesemp3.mp3

http://two.xthost.info/shortbus/Virus%20Ti%20Reese.mp3

No external FX or modulation used.

And heres one From the Thor
http://two.xthost.info/shortbus/Thor%20Reese.mp3

Do I smell a new sound Desighn Contest, (Subject Reese Bass) ?

The problem Im having making the reese on the ti is the phasing dosnt modulate with the pitch as well as on the Thor or Malmstom so I end up having to build it in the matrix which isnt quite as accurate, sounds close but dosnt glide the same, and while on the subject the portamento dosnt follow the same path as other synths.

Fantastic........ DNB Sqarereese.mp3

So I use the kontakt to resample and modulate the filters to my taste

I leave here the total sample:

ShortBus 17.10.2009 07:22 PM

Sounds great, I like the synth rythem.

boborulz 18.10.2009 10:26 PM

how many of you use amplitude (or equiv) for one of the reese layers? I get a pretty nice sound from that

inforlk 19.10.2009 12:24 PM

I use to drum treble D16 the decimort.

layers to use the self saturation & distorting kontakt

fornax 19.10.2009 05:51 PM

That sounds great!
Share the patch!
Thanks. :P

boborulz 22.10.2009 11:04 PM

i understand if you arent willing to share your patch, but could you help with the modulation? i cant seem to get my reese 'moving' right...for example i have 3 reese layers going atm

one with a hp, one with a lp and one with a bp but honestly it sounds like crap...im using a detuned saw and square, a touch of unison and distortion etc...

ShortBus 22.10.2009 11:10 PM

Try-Filter1=Bandstop Filter2=Bandpass in series and with different speeds.

boborulz 22.10.2009 11:24 PM

in series? different LFO speeds yea? Thanks shortbus

boka 21.04.2010 07:48 AM

Good topic... can you share a preset so I could take a look at it?

inforlk 27.04.2010 02:15 PM

Yes in to = http://www.infekted.org/virus/showthread.php?t=31657

Innovine 21.05.2010 10:30 AM

Instead of sampling the audio, doing the split and processing them individually, have you tried creating three layers on the virus (low, mid and high) and running each through some virus fx and filters? How does this compare to sampling, splitting and adding fx with a computer?
