OS3 not working properly on SNOW?

I've just installed OS3 + VC on my Virus TI Snow and the installation went perfectly. Some of the new features do indeed work nicely (the character-effect is very *very* nice).

However, when using the new software in Cubase 4.5.2 (Vista32) a lot of very obvious problems occur:
- when choosing any osctype other than classic the snow crashes
- very often the sync between PC and Snow gets lost (warning message)
- after a few minutes of playback the sound disappears (instead I get a strange buzz)

Anyone else with a Snow have it working OK?

Prime NL 16.01.2009 08:16 PM

I am having almost the same issues like you have with my Snow using Ableton Live 5.0 (for info, on OS 2.7.5 everything worked fine in Ableton)

Everything installed fine with OS3...but as soon as i startup VC in Ableton the sound is distorted and phases in and out.
I sometimes get it back to normal when i tweak all FX off...but this solution lasts only for a couple of minutes and then no more sound is to be heared.

Only solution for me is to restart the Snow (power off) and Ableton.

As a standalone the Snow works perfect....but the VC plugin doesn't work anymore for me as the sound is totally broken....even after trying several settings and solutions.

I was just going to post about this issue.
Same bugs here. It suddenly blanks out and no sound. That constant buzz at times as it hangs. Some of the presets aren't playing at all.

The new features are cool, but I can barely work on a project without having to restart the Snow every 2 minutes.
:( Please fix this soon.

Ummmm....... that's why they call it a "Beta version". It's "use at your own risk" until some of the issues are worked out by the developers having the proper feedback from the.......you guessed it: "Beta testers!"

You've willfully chosen to involve yourself in an experiment my friend. MWaAHHAhHAhAHHAHHAHAAA!!!!!!!

You can probably downgrade if you want to back out. Read here:

yeah... I always wait for at least one point upgrade... typically two before I upgrade any software that I use... because there are *always* bugs.

just look at the release note history for nearly any program!

Prime NL 17.01.2009 06:02 AM

It is not really a problem for me as i use the Snow mostly as a standalone and not VC.
Mostly will use this when i need to shuffle patches around or just play a bit with the UI.

Oh well....will wait for the next release with the bug fixes then....

That's why 3 people post almost the same problems...

Yesterday night spend several hours trying to solve this problem...re-install....downgrade and upgrade again....etc....but the problem still exists.

As soon as i start VC in my sequencer i hear distorted sounds and after a couple of minutes my Snow crashes...so no workie fine for me... :(

first of all, i don't work in support. second about, this is an unofficial forum, so please don't expect to much from our end.
if i personally have a problem with the tools i use, i get in touch with support. i don't waste time posting on a board without specifics. "me too" replies very likely will make you feel not being alone but not solve your problem. and "me too" doesn't mean that posters talk about the same things.

That is promising. Maybe there is a way to make it work properly then.

Have you tried changing oscillators (e.g. from classic to hypersaw or grain) in the VC plugin? For me that's a simple and 100% reproducable way to make the SNOW go mute (at least on Vista32).

If that works fine for you, maybe I have to tinker with some settings or something.

I will contact Access support anyway.

Splat! 17.01.2009 11:18 AM

Does anyone know how much time a fix would take? Pardon my impatience, but I need it for a couple of tracks in the coming weeks.
Otherwise I might have to downgrade :(

Just downgraded to version 2.7.3 (for me the most stable version so far). The downgrade was quick and painless.

This makes the whole thing even better for me! If I want to experiment with the new OS I can install it, and when it's production time the downgrade back to where I came from is done in a few minutes.

Thanks Access! I really appreciate the generosity and flexibility you offer us.

:p

Splat! 17.01.2009 07:44 PM

I think I'm going to do the same. But, what was wrong with 2.7.5? Seemed quite stable to me...

For some reason on 2.7.5 my Snow lost sync from time to time (especially with arps) and - more extreme - even random strange pitch wobbling like someone was accidentally hitting a pitchbend stick.

2.7.3 has been rock solid for me.

same here on dual 2.5 ghz, osx 10.4.11 , logic 8.02 .
on 2.7.5 and 3.0
i also had problems installing the new firmware , the plugin install went ok but somehow firmware didn't install. i had to run virus control center to make it update
i'll try 2.7.3

nidefawl 23.01.2009 07:44 PM

i have exactly the same problems with the Snow and OS3.0

Q6600
Cubase 3
WinXP SP3

I will get back to 2.x until there is a fix

krztov 25.01.2009 11:11 PM

been lurking since i upgraded to 3.0 and found this site. emailed Access support today:

I emailed:
"upgraded my Virus Snow to the new 3.0 OS and I've noticed some bugs such as sound randomly dropping out (happened a few times when selecting a hypersaw), patches loading, but not working with my project file in Cubase SX3, etc. It seems like ost of the issues are related to the VST plugin interface. Are these known issues/is there a fix coming for this? I really like the new 3.0 Features and would rather not downgrade if I dont have to."

they replied:
"Dear Christof,
We're aware of issues with selecting patches with the TI Snow and the sound then dropping out or the unit even causing a sinewave-like sound when this happens.
Obviously we will fix this in an upcoming version of OS 3."

I asked for a time frame, there is none :(

"Upcoming" sounds not like there will be a fix soon

Virus TI Snow. Small means less
