Piss Up Thread!!!

Here I sit,
Only one,
Wife and kids, for weekend gone,
Pizza for dinner, vodka for my head,
Time to start a piss up thread!!!
------------------------------------------------
Busy weekend for me.

Since I can work interrupted for 2.5 days I'm modifying my DAW desk by adding a second shelf.

Will post pics of the process for the sake of perpetuating this piss up thread.

Anyone else got worthy plans to discuss?

Celebrity gossip?

Dirty jokes?

If you know of any good liver vitamins please let me know as I'm going to be toxifying myself for the next 48 hours.

:)

Cheers!

Doc Jones 26.04.2008 02:27 AM

Have one for me my friend.

Doc Jones 26.04.2008 02:43 AM

it's quite catchy actually.

Beer, Beer, Beer,
I'm going for a beer,

Beer, Beer, Beer,
I'm gonna drink some beer,

I like drinking Beer
Lovely, lovely beer . . . .

AlexHall74 26.04.2008 04:18 AM

DUDE! That is Hilarious stuff! I especially love the clip where the guy falls face first into the wall while handcuffed during his booking at the local police station. Muuhhahahaaaa!!!

That's why I drink vodka, and not beer.

:)

Just cleared out my den/studio. I had to fold, wash, dry fold (again) bloody-hell 3 loads of laundry to open up the damn space.

Now my DAW desk is cleared off and I can post the "Virgin picture" before it is modified to my redneck carpentry standards:

Gemini L Desk (Cherry Finish) (Standard Setup, No Modifications):

Crude Prototype of 2nd Tier Shelf (for 2 x HR824s and one LCD Monitor):

In the morning I post my conceptual drawing and the preparation of the final product...

I hope you are doing it in a marketing consultant style: A landscape with the DAW workspace in the center and around it there are flying cars, a futuristic glass metropol, a couple on a lovely picnic, children playing in the park and a rape going on in the bushes.

AlexHall74 26.04.2008 01:31 PM

Hey Juho,

Of course there will be a rape going on in the bushes of my conceptual drawing, a large tomcat will be in the midst of raping a stray tabby. I would never forget such an important detail, thank you very much.

More soon...

AlexHall74 26.04.2008 03:45 PM

Begin Actual Project...

The precursors all bunched together...

I taped off a little spray paint are with some left over packing material:

The "legs" of my shelf are now spray painted a "hammered" metallic silver:

Now it's time to go the lunber store and get two more pieces of wood cut. The top shelf is actually a scrap of red oak, 60 inches long, and 11.25 inches wide. It has a little split on the end and thus only cost me $2.00! But, the lumber store put a thin band of pink spraypaint on the edge of the board to mark it as a "$2.00 scrap." So, I'm taking it back to get 1/2 inch cut off that end so I don't see any pink left over paint in the finish when it's already been sanded, stained, and lacquered. That would really piss me off.

The other cut is to create the 19.125 inch shelves that will be the base supports of my rack gear. If I were to buy rackrail it would double the cost and time of this project, neither of which I can afford at the moment. So, the 19.125 inch baseboards/shelves will keep the rack gear up and I'll use some little teeny tiny screws where the rack screws usually go to keep the racks gear fixed in position and to make sure they don't come forward...

Am leaving now, will be back later with additional details. No cocktails until 5:00 PM.

:)

Juho L 26.04.2008 09:24 PM

That doesn't look like a rape. It looks like the bobcat couple is married. "Again? God damn it make it quick".

I'm a rather pissed at the moment. Today I held a quiz for student teams about piracy in the Suomenlinna at the tomb of Karl III. Eight questions and only two teams got through with more than 0 points. It's good to be evil. Let's try, and to googling!:

1. What was the most common physical injury of the pirates and why=

2. How much a pirate drank alcohol per day in general. (amounts in 35% booze and 5% beer)

2.Edward Teach ja Oruc Reis Were feared pirates of their day named after their beards. What were their nicknames and the colours of their beards?

3.What is the most shared video file in PirateBay at the moment (26.05., 12:00)?

4.The pirates lived from grog. What did that foul liquid contain?

5.Pirating was also women's hobby. Say two most ferocious female pirates.

6.What is the largest pirate copy in the world?

7.How many percent of the software globally is illegal piracy software?

AlexHall74 26.04.2008 10:17 PM

Jolly Mayhem! A quiz show curteousy of our owm good administration. I'm going to need a few drinks to be able to Google this mess. Consume, then research, will return with answers, the correctness of which are not guaranteed in any capacity...

:)

Two more pictures:

The top shelf has one coat of stain/lacquer combo. Will apply second coat in one hour, then first coat of polyeurathane topcoat at midnight:

The base shelves for the rack gear are done. They are only sprayed on the bottom and the "display edges" but are not painted where the rack gear will be housed:

Phase two complete, moving forward...

AlexHall74 27.04.2008 03:38 PM

End of Desk Project - Running out of Time!

Well it looks like the polyeurathane and lacquer clera coat are taking longer to dry than I expected, it's been years since I've worked with this stuff so I'm a bit rusty.

I setup the legs and top shelf together in a test configuration on the desk top:

The room will look more as intended once the whole thing is assembled and the gear takes its rightful place:

That's all for this weekend as the wife and kids will be home in 4.5 hours. Finishing mowing/edging the yard now, laundry next, then clean up kitchen (DISASTER) and then fix dinner.

No coktails this evening. Last evening almost did me in...

;)

Doc Jones 27.04.2008 05:33 PM

lookin good alex.

AlexHall74 27.04.2008 07:28 PM

Thanks for the compliment, Doc, it makes me a little more hopeful about what Mrs. Hall is going to think when she gets home in 2.5 hours.

If she doesn't like it then I'm going to have get really creative in fixing this damn thing!

;)

Hope you've had a good weekend!

Hey Timo! Nice to hear from you! Going into the racks is (1) JV 1080 (2U, with a shitload of aftermarket sound abnks from www.pro-rec.com) (2) a Motif ES Rack (1U, with a shitload of aftermarket sounds bought from eBAY) and (3) a Furman RP8 Power Strip (1U) to keep the electrical situation under control.

I'd love to get a Fantom XR though later this year, 6 SRX expansion slots is just a kick ass thing to have at your disposal with no contingencies on the old DAW.

I'm considering going mixerless, straight into my Delta 101LT and using my Mackie Control for tactile stuff. Part of me though is leanining toward dumping one pair of analog outs from each synth into my Yammy mixer and the others straight to the 1010, that way I can jam without the PC turned on if I wanna, and that's important.

Oh, an I just found a huge array of LED lights in all colors on eBAY. I'm thinking of rigging the under portion of the top shelf with green or blue LEDs, and then installing a thin piece of trim around the front + side edges of the main shelf to hide them a bit. It would look kick ass to have the whole setup glow like an alien microwave during midnight headphone jams...

:)

I love that beer song too, very primal stuff that is, Ha!!!

LEDs or cold-cathodes would be cool (no pun), can imagine a nice glow emanating from underneath the shelves!

Mixerless is good, it's the way of the future. People will always have nice outboard gear, synths, effects and stuff that they need to plumb into their computers, so having soundcards with loads of inputs/outputs and using them as inputs or sends/returns or the like instead of a mixer is the holy grail. Bit like a mixer and patchbay all in one!

great thanks, just built a new computer, just need to replug and install everything and then it's a full assault! How's the missus and the sprog doing? Introduced your little'un to the world of sound mangling yet? :D

Hollowcell 30.04.2008 10:11 PM

Sound mangling is my kids speciality! The oldest one pushed in my of the cones on my left monitor the other day - he doesn't need synths to mangle sound, he just mods hardware!! Little fucker...

AlexHall74 01.05.2008 12:28 AM

Timo, you're right, using the soundcards ins/outs as send/returns would simplify things a bit, eh? Maybe I'll give going mixerless a try. I can always just grab 4 inputs of my soundcard and use them for the 2 stereo busses of the Yammy. ;)

HC, my eldest daughter pushed in the tweeter dome of my nearfield when she was 2! It really pissed me off, but luckily my neighbor had this mini handheld vaccumm that had low suction power (God knows why) and it pulled the dome back out safe and sound. A sound guy I know here in town said that even if it stayed "stuck in" that it didn't affect the sound of the speaker, so fuck it.

Cheers!

-Alex

Hollowcell 01.05.2008 04:34 AM

It was the dome actually, and I did manage to get the dome back out - he did get screamed at before I fixed the thing though. Poor little guy followed me around the house saying "sorry Dad" every 30 seconds or so.

As it should be. Don't mess with Daddy's toys, PERIOD. My Dad taught me that lesson early and it was a bit more than a yelling that accomplished it. A child needs to learn guilt and consequence to some degree, or else he/she will be a demanding sociopath, like OVM.

;)

Juho L 01.05.2008 05:54 PM

So, Mr. HC, you have managed to reproduce again. How many kids you have now? Eleven?

Because of May Day, I'm drinking beer. A good excuse to enjoy beer! Drink beer, delicious. Yesterday I was at the park drinking some beer and hanging around with my friends. We had organised a May Day event and the greatest highlight was the gig of Nieminen & Litmanen, a superb drums-Hammond duo.

P.s. Alex, the bearded pirates were Blackbeard and Redbeard, but both had black beards.

Hollowcell 01.05.2008 11:08 PM

I have two that I know of Juho. It seems that even if I beat off and some lands on the floor, it has enough strength to slime it's way into a vagina somewhere! It's powerful stuff! :)

Maybe it's time for me to get the snip like Alex.

AlexHall74 02.05.2008 12:08 AM

Juho, thanks for the clarification on the pirates questions. I just looked at my answer and I don't know if I was drunk or if I got bad info from the WWW. I'll blame it on the WWW.

;)

HC, I'm with you Bro, if I jerked off in a swimming pool every bitch at either end would be carrying at least one bun in the oven. My luck they'd all sue me for child support and I never would have even gotten a kiss.

Isn't that kind of odd? If a fellow screwed a chick while wearing a condom, blew his load in the condom, got a call from his boss, boss says he must come to work NOW, man goes promptly to work, woman takes condom out of garbage can and smears it in her trap because she's menstruating and wants to get pregnant:

RESULT = Guy pays child support for 18 YEARS

If he blew his load and the condom broke, then so be it, no big deal, he threw the dice. But, if she were a dirty little hooker and played the trick above then foul on that.

The worst would be if a lesbian got it on with some guy and smeared the condom in her girlfriend's gear and then she gets pregnant and the guy pays for diapers and college and the girls stay home and eat Bon Bons. He never got to see THEM kiss! What a freaking disaster!!!

Basically I guess my point is that be careful if you blow your load ANYWHERE when you know you are as fertile as HC and me.

:)

Back to finishing my shelf so I can post more pics and drink more wine.

Old Vantaa Man 02.05.2008 05:13 AM

Fertile as you? IN YOUR DREAMS, HALL. You got your bollox chopped a coupla years ago. As did I.

Here's Tom Waits on the matter:

Actually, the question I get asked the most is... and somebody today, just... I mean, out of the clear blue sky, somebody came up to me and said 'Tom, is it possible for a girl to get pregnant without intercourse?' I get that all the time. I mean, I get asked that all the time! Anyway... I said, for the answer to this we're gonna have to go all the way back to the civil war. Apparently a stray bullet... This is the truth! A stray bullet actually pierced the testicle of a Union soldier, and then it went on to lodge itself in the ovaries of an eighteen year old girl who was standing two hundred, maybe three hundred feet from him at the time. They'd never even met! How's that for luck! Anyway, you know, she was very happy of course, cause there was something kind of immaculate about the conception, and she did a lot of interviews and that type of thing, and people flew in, and she was on the cover of a lot of magazines at the time. The baby was healthy. Of course, the soldier was pissed off, wouldn't you be? It's actually a FORM of intercourse, but I don't think it's for everybody. Unless you like action. I like action! This is a little song about eh... I got it right out of the encyclopedia..."

Other Tom stuff:

Matt,

I guarantee you that my legion of sperm soldiers is busily trying to repair my Vas Deferens as I speak. Looks like I'll have to get a microscope, a scalpel, and a bottle of rum to prove it.

;)

Hollowcell 02.05.2008 03:11 PM

They tested this on Mythbusters, and it was proved impossible to take sperm with a bullet and transfer the little wrigglers to a fertile woman. She was a slut and she should have just admitted it. :)

BWAHHHHH!!!!! ROFL!!

That slut should have just fessed up that she was screwing the town reverend.

There is NO WAY that little soldiers could stay alive atop a high-temperature, high-velocity, metal projectile like a bullet.

Time to finish my desk project and drink some wine. Muhahaaa!!!!

The poor little desk was sagging a bit under all the weight of the new shelf and all other gear on top of it, so I had to reinforce the desktop with some spare boards by bolting them on as horizontal struts.

This is turning into a fucking pain in the arse...
