What car should I buy?

looking only to spend about £3 or £4 thousand .... just need something that moves, will last a couple of years and is safe enough for my 2 year old daughter in her childseat.

Any suggestions on a make, or model?

I'm just about to start looking at the car adds but have virtually no clue what to look out for.

Nissan Micra, purple one.
Never break down, no-one would ever steal it, no-one would ever think there would be any valuables in it.
Insurance is dirt cheap, bizzies never pull one over.
You can also claim you are positively rejecting cock-in-hand boy-racer culture by choosing an icon of the SAGA generation.

Sorted.

lol thanks all

The micra is a fair suggestion, i'm 6' 2" though so probably a bit small for me. On checking out the nissans on Ebay though I found I was drawn to the Almera. They seem ok on the face of it and are reasonably priced.

get a VW golf ...perhaps even the golf gti if you can...sound good for a tall guy like you ..and I don't think it would be expensive second hand.

Drammy 25.06.2007 10:08 PM

There's no way you'll get a Golf GTI for 3 -4 grand.

I'm looking into cars atm. Thinking of getting one of these (company car)...

Get a Subaru Legacy wagon. Dunno if you'll pick one up that cheap over there, but I have one and they are great cars. If you can a 250T would be good. Avoid the GT as the turbo just adds to insurance costs. Oh and avoid any with the air suspension as it is shit and breaks.

Im driving one of those Lexus IS250's at the moment Drammy...

They are a sweet ride, perform much better than other cars in their price range, and come well equipped as standard.

Wish it was mine...

The subaru looks nice man, i'll check them out too

I drive a golf TDI (S-plate) only 90bhp but moves and is safe, reliable and I bloody love it, only cost 3500, you should be able to get one. But I'd recommend getting one of the 130bhp models now they shift!

My dad is getting a Audi A4 150bhp diesel, man I've got to have a shot he had an Audi TT for a couple of years but they're crap for driving.

It's golf all the way for me since I've had a mk2, mk3, mk4.... too young for the mk1 with the ugly back screen

nvisibl 26.06.2007 09:16 AM

lol, spot the boy racers...

does anyone have a vauxhall nova with tinted glass windows, alloys and one of those stupid loud exhaust things on it which are meant to make it sound fast but actually impresses the opposite?

mr.e 26.06.2007 09:29 AM

been driving the audi tt 1.8 for like 4 months now...I live in the city and I must admit it does get frustrating being so gentle on the gas. Thats why I mostly like driving at night. Great car though Love it

 Mine is just a normal looking golf, but I do come from Falkirk which has one of the biggest cruise meets for boy racers, The First Thursday of every month is a night you don't go anywhere in your car. Since I drive so much to work a Diesel car is just practical for me,
