Delta 1010 or 1616m ??
If you had to pick one in terms of the best sound quality......which one would it be?
Cheers DS |
I'd leave the m-audios on the shelf and get a motu or RME if sound quality is your concern
|
Yo DS..
Get one of these (Both Firewire) http://www.tcelectronic.com/KonnektLive.asp 499 Euros or http://www.rme-audio.de/en_products_fireface_400.php 845 Euros I have the second |
Yup. Go RME... you cheap bastard!
;) |
If you need quality convertion with lots of I/O for a good price check out the Echo audiofire 8 or 12.
if you dont need more then 2 In/out go with the RME HDSP series. |

Thx guys. I went ahead and bought the RME 800. Hopefully it will be one of those cards you buy and wont need to replace for 10 years.
I've also bought a new music computer http://secure.turnkey.co.uk/web/prod...O2&context=WEB and 22 inch widescreen lcd monitor. Im buying all this as Ive sent back the Motif XS8. I really hated it. Hate the concept of workstation keyboards. 97% of the onboard sounds I would never have used. DS |
Smart decision.

I have several questions regarding the RME 800
Firstly, given the internal mixing and routing options of the 800.....do I still need to run things through my analog mixer? I have a small bedroom studio.... Secondly, for £900 - is this one of the best sounding interfaces you can do buy at this price range? I just want to reassure myself that there wasnt anything better :D Thirdly, do I assign outputs 1 & 2 to become my master outputs for connection to my mixer (if I keep it) or directly into the back of my 824's? How do you have your interface set up? Cheers me dears DS |
Hey Mate,
I still run my interface out through my mixer. The fader on my mixer is in a convenient position for me to adjust monitoring volume, plus I use the VU/PPM's on the mixer to check that levels are good out of the box. You could just run your monitors straight from the 800 though. Entirely up to you. Outputs 1/2 are usually what you'd use, I also have a pair of main outputs which mirror 1/2. As far as running your synths straight into the RME, thats up to you too. I still run my synths through my mixer, others might not. I have all my synth connected to a patch bay. half normalled to the inputs on my mixer, and when I need to record them as audio I just patch them out of the patchbay into the interface. RME make damn fine interfaces, and their converters are great. There are better out there of course, but you'll also be spending alot more. Dont worry about the gear regret... |

All my synth are connected to a mixer through the patchbay. My mixer has a main bus, a Alt 3-4 bus and a control room output connected like this:
Control room out -> Monitors Main out -> Not connected Alt 3-4 -> Audio interface in This way i can record a synth by pushing the "Alt 3-4" button on the mixer channel i wish to record and i can adjust the monitor volume on the control room fader and monitor the signal level i send to the audio interface input. I love this setup and wouldn´t live without my mixer. Also because i like to play my synth without having to turn on my computer first. If your computer is always on and you feel like you don´t need a mixer, no problem, just use the software mixer. |
