Insomnia

Well, it's 4:24am and I have to be at work in a few hours . . . .

Bah!

Doc Jones 19.02.2007 12:03 PM

it's now 7:00am. I am shaved, showered and just threw on a suit.

As I was brushing my teeth, I came to the realization that as this sleep deprivation drags on, I'm actually starting to resemble my avatar more and more!

AlexHall74 19.02.2007 01:12 PM

Wow!

You should make a few bucks impersonating Edward Norton!

If you find a Brad Pitt look-alike you can beat the shit out of each otehr at a local bar and make alot of money in tips!!!

;)

Doc Jones 19.02.2007 01:30 PM

heh, maybe I should start a local fight club.

Hell, I already look the part ;)

Khazul 19.02.2007 06:20 PM

Thought this was something about the faithless track - then it turns out its Docs fucking blog!

:)

Meth! You dumbass!

Sleep is over rated!!!

;)

Doc Jones 19.02.2007 11:18 PM

just got about 4 hours of sleep. What a difference. Can think a bit more clearly now. Just what the hell happens during sleep that if you go more than 24 hours without it, you start to lose your mind?

Interesting fact . . .
- The record for the longest period without sleep is 18 days, 21 hours, 40 minutes during a rocking chair marathon. The record holder reported hallucinations, paranoia, blurred vision, slurred speech and memory and concentration lapses

and here is at least one benefit to insomnia . . .
- After five nights of partial sleep deprivation, three drinks will have the same effect on your body as six would when you've slept enough
(so apparently with isomnia, you can save money!!)

The rocking chair incident does not answer a VERY important question:

How does sleep deprivation effect one's ability to maintain an erection?

If insomnia screwed that up, I would take any medication necessary to resolve the issue.

Indeed, a very important question!! Luckily , I can safely assure you that the two aren't linked (thank god)!

Old Vantaa Man 20.02.2007 10:23 AM

I was gonna suggest heroin too.

Or was that the other thread and a cure for Sebastian's hangover? Oh well. Heroin will get you sorted mate.

Nice to see a fellow suit wearer on the forum, btw. Very smart. Can't be beat.

AlexHall74 20.02.2007 12:51 PM

There is nothing like a nice suit, tie, monogrammed shirt, and shiny shoes to convince others that you have NOT been up all night and up to no good...

;)

Doc Jones 19.05.2008 04:12 AM

and . . . . it's back !!!!

shit.

Doc Jones 19.05.2008 02:28 PM

you know insomnia wouldn't be so bad (I get a lot of music done at night) if I didn't look like the walking dead throughout the day.

Khazul 19.05.2008 07:35 PM

Get your doc to sign you off work for 6 months - its the only cure - just in time for summer to catch some rays etc :)

AlexHall74 20.05.2008 10:57 AM

Damn it, Doc, you've been hit again with the curse of the night dwellers. I don't know how often you get hit by insomnia, but it gets me a few times per month at a minimum. If I have something that I would like to be focusing on (music!) then it's a real gift. If I am uninspired and can't sleep then I get really pissed.

Luckily, a Xanax or two knocks me down effectively. If it's a real bad ass case of insomina though, I just stay up and suffer the next day. As long as I stretch my body out and lay down for a few hours my back and legs can function the next day. The only thing that can wake me up on a day like that is 2 ephedrine, 2 aspirin, and a cup of coffee (The ECA stack, an old bodybuilder's diet trick). That will wake your ass up, guaranteed!

:)

P.S. You might want to ask your doctor about "Provigil" as it is a drug for people with sleep shift disorder (airline staff, doctors, etc.) They have a free 7 day trial if I am not mistaken.

Old Vantaa Man 20.05.2008 02:30 PM

Ephedrine: Adverse effects (Wiki):Yay! You seem to have a very understanding doctor there Alex to get all these pharmaceuticals.

Edit: Btw, best cure (seriously) for insomnia is a good toke.

Doc Jones 20.05.2008 03:04 PM

yeah, if it goes one more night I'll probably have to resort to prescribed drugs. thanks for the tips Alex, I definitely need something to stay focused today --> may take a trip over to the health food store to find some "energy" supplements.

heh OVM, I took a look at those symptoms and thought "man, that is exactly what I am experiencing right now" . . . . without the ephedrine.

jasedee 21.05.2008 02:41 PM

I feel for you Doc, not being able to sleep when you need to is one of the most frustrating things EVER!

How's your health otherwise? You exercising a lot? Eating well?

AlexHall74 21.05.2008 03:50 PM

OVM, You would have to be a real meely-peely sissy pants to suffer side effects like that from ephedrine. The weak must get thinned from the herd somehow, right? My doctor is really cool. I do all my research before I go to him for anything and he works with me to find a solution that works for whatever ails me. All my meds are for legitimate reasons. I'll tell you what, I was given Demerol for my shoulder surgery for pain, that stuff is SERIOUS; it knocks me on my arse for hours, I can't even keep my eyes open. It is the only thing that took the post-operative pain away; ibuprofen and Tylenol at the same time (medically sound to do because the two do not interact with each other, as per my kids' pediatrician) did not even touch the pain.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Doc, I hope your sleep/wake schedule gets sorted out soon.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Jase, you nosey, globetrotting bastard. How dare you ask if the good Doc Jones is taking care of himself, he is a doctor, you know. ;) Where the hell are you now? Egypt? Pakistan? Bangkok? Do you ever get fucked with by customs at each country because your passport has been stamped in so many god forsaken places? I must look suspicious, they ask me all kinds of damn questions whenever I travel.

;)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Cheers,

-Alex

Doc Jones 21.05.2008 05:19 PM

hey Jase, truth be told I think my biggest problem stems from the fact that I have always been a night person. I honestly have my most energy around 1 - 2 am. Of course this is a serious problem when you have to get up at 7am for work. Normally I just make up my loss of sleep on the weekends, but I probably will now have to sleep a full week straight to make up this bout of insomnia. Good news is that I got about 4 or 5 hours last night so I am heading in the right direction :)

AlexHall74 22.05.2008 01:12 AM

I forgot one surefire way to help you go to sleep:

GET LAID.

It has a very relaxing effect on me once it's all done, better than any amount of alcohol or Xanax.

:)

Nowhere exotic this time... I'm in San Francisco for the next 6 months (hopefully)

God I love this town... there's just something about it.

And yes, I do get fucked with by customs, but mainly because I look like a terrorist. Even though I have a valid US work visa, I still get sent to secondary inspection every fucking time. Damn redneck mutherfuckers, the whole lot of youse!

What are all you yanky bastards doing for the Memorial Day long weekend? Me? I'm heading to Monterey for some sightseeing. I hear there's an amazing aquarium down there.

Doc: I agree with Alex on this one... have a mad root, everything will be better

Doc Jones 22.05.2008 08:13 PM

sage advise gentlemen. I just placed a call to the ex girlfriend.

Please let there be deep sleep in my future ;)

AlexHall74 24.05.2008 04:58 PM

Jase, I'll buy you an Al Qaeda T-shirt if you promise to wear it each time you fly anywhere. I have a black T-shirt that a friend of mine bought me in the nineties, in a white screen print, it has the word "TERROR" above 3 x-ray images of handguns (Uzi, .45 caliber, and a 9 mm) and below the guns it says "DISTRIBUTION." I actually wore that shirt a few times when I traveled (5-6 years before 9/11 mind you) just to be an arse. Now I just wear it to the gym. My new favorite T-shirt now is one that says "The beatings will continue until morale improves" with a Jolly Roger above it.

Doc, sex with the ex, a wise decision indeed. Suit up, dive in, and have fun.

;)
