Food for thought Ladies and gentlemen
Just been listening to some of my old 80s cassettes...Back in the 80s i was just Djing but now producing ,listening with different ears :-)
Some of those guys had it going on and some didn't !! For example ,my favourites of the 80s "Change" some great Mixing and the Mastering well just listen to it...Good stuff..If you know Change just listen to the track "warm" the way her voice fits the track is great..Or listen to "Change of heart" My god,how many effects...Very nice.. Another favorite of mine "The jones Girls" Mastering and mixing for that time..Amazing.. "SOS band" Say no more (saw them in 87) "BB and Q Band" say no more.. Very Disappointed with an artist called "Dhar Braxton" which i saw back on Solid soul (Channel 4,UK) back in 85 which i liked but now listening to a cassette Mastering and Mixing, totally Shit... ................................. Inspiration nodoubt,so some of you young whipper snappers get hold of some "change" tracks, maybe the ones above mentioned and have a listen to um..With headphones on.. Sorry about me spellin' i was having a few lagers while chillin' to me old cassettes.. ;-) |

Could be that I missunderstood your posting, I catched a cold and combined with my chronic bronchitis this means quite some lack of sleep...
So, what was your point again? :o |
I remember The Jones Girls. They did Nights Over Egypt.
Ronnie Laws, Crusaders, Patrice Rushen - oh my, Straight from the Heart is a MEGA album. http://www.patricerushen.com/straight.html Every track a killer. "Forget me nots" what tune to a famous movie did that become? Saw Shakatak in about 81. They were AWESOME! They also famously got busted for coke after the gig.. Fuck me, Level 42 were brilliant and Talking Heads. And The Clash had some great club tunes. Was listening to Combat Rock just tonight. |

Shit..I know the words better than she does, she keeps forgeting to but the mic up to her mouth when she is supposed to sing  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AthNSEjMSYw |
Alot of nice music in the 80s - definately more 'musical' then alot of stuff today, but nearly every time I hear tracks from that time Im reminded how little raw energy there was in it - used to love it back then, even used to DJ it... but these days it just doesnt do alot for me anymore - great remix potential in alot of it though :)
Maybe in this day and age we all need something a little more intense to contrast the dehumanised world of work...? |

How about 'Waiting for a Train' by Flash & the Pan? Great riff on that track.

I think at that time I rather prefered Midnight Man, liked the ping pong sound ;)
