Bass guitar and Virus

I'm really interested in routing my bass and effets pedals through a synthesizer since my biggest influence, Les Claypool, does and I want to expand my tonal possibilities. Does anybody have any suggestions of what I should get?
Thanks

CK

The desk top TI should do you fine.

hawaiianbass 26.07.2006 03:49 PM

Would the classic desktop work too?

Tomer=Trance 26.07.2006 08:21 PM

yeah but i belive you will need a DI box of some sort before going into the virus analog In.

hawaiianbass 26.07.2006 09:11 PM

What kind of DI?

Something with a Hi-Z guitar input and line level balanced out.

I just use th pre-dsp insert send on my bass v-amp pro to feed the visu from my bass.

In case I can't get a Classic would a Virus C work as well?

Yeah, they all have external inputs. I've never really tried them out though. A Virus C will be a better buy for you than the Classic IMO

hawaiianbass 27.07.2006 05:59 AM

In laymans terms what are the differences between the different models?

CK

Tomer=Trance 27.07.2006 08:01 AM

well i would recommend runing your bass thru some butique pre di and then go thru the virus Input but generaly any cheap ass DI will do the job. :D

hawaiianbass 27.07.2006 08:49 AM

How will that affect my setup? I want the Virus and my pedals in my eccets loop. Will a DI affect that?

A cheap DI will sound, er, cheap! A class A valve/tube DI sounds fekkin awesome...

But it shouldnt stop you from running the bass into the Virus.

The difference between B/C series Virus? There is a comparison chart on the Access website. I think with the C you get more polyphony, EQ/FX per part, and also the MOOG filters...

Any recomendations for a DI?

Since I'll essentially be using the Virus as another effect pedal I'll need some kind of footswitch right? What brands do you suggest?

I would suggest one of the Sansamp DIs,maybe the bass driver model.
these DIs are also excelent for tracking.

honestly, using a virus c or ti as a guitar effects module?

seems a bit excessive, and expensive. i'd probably use my jp8080 for tha purpose before my virus. especially since my 8080 has that formant vocoder.

I kinda agree, unless you will also be using it for it's intended purpose too? Maybe you are after just a filter bank or something?

It does seem like alot of money to spend if you are just going to run your bass through it.

Tomer=Trance 29.07.2006 03:18 PM

i was under the impression he was going to use it as a synth at the same time... :\

iand 29.07.2006 09:30 PM

I straight connect my bass(active) :mrgreen: into the TI's input, no DI-box!!! Sounds pretty frigging great!!!! Even better when SX3 is running the inputs.

hawaiianbass 30.07.2006 12:19 AM

I was going to use it as a synth too.

Now, any suggestions on the pedal I had mentioned earlier?
