Well I was thinking of getting a Virus Polar T1

Not so sure now after reading some of these posts

May go to the Nord G2 or Radius

Unless some of you can convince me to take the plunge

want to use it with Intel Imac and logic pro 7.2, will plug it into an Appogee Ensemble when it turns up

Though could edit it on a PC laptop or PC

Thougts please, if not an alternative?

i belive these bugs will be solved soon,
i would suggest geting a different synth meanwhile (2nd hand maybe?) and just sell it on a later point to get the POLAR or TI. by then it will have a rock solid software and most if not all of the sequencer-TI related issues will be solved.

i would give it few months.

The past thought us a different story, and so will the future... why do u think access released an incomplete product, should have released OS1.1 two monts ago already and it's still not released? The TI's half a year on the market, have you experienced any significant improvements?

I did the mistake going for the TI but sent it back, now I'm considering seriously buying a Radias with the money instead of waiting for a fixed TI which probably is just plain impossible due to the nature of USB1...

I have a radias and TI. Just know that the radias is definitely a "clean" sound. You are not going to get the dark overtones out of the radias unless you sample somestuff through the formant modelling. I think they actually make a great pair.

Personally I would say wait for OS1.1 reviews before making a purchase :)

Unless you dont plan to use it with the VST interface.

I went this route and purchased a used virus c on e-bay for a decent price.
I can't wait for the TI to stabalize, as it is a wondeful sounding piece of gear! The virus C sounds great too (considering how many hit tracks it has been a part of).......

Bummer about the TI/USB
:(

MaDProFF 03.05.2006 12:56 AM

thanks for tip, but i really need a keyboard :(

ledge 03.05.2006 01:04 AM

Personally if I was about to buy a synth I'd wait for 1.1 to come out, which looks not to be far away now, and assuming the reports back regarding it are good then I'd get it.

Hollowcell 03.05.2006 06:17 AM

At the very least I'd wait....

But having said that, I would like own a Radias.

Good luck with the choice! :D

*VAs are just bling bling,i see no point in having more then 1,sorry.
*i dont realy fancy the Korg radius

*im not a TI owner just a former virus owner... i reckon its a great synth.

Fuck you say some strange crap sometimes Tommer.

I know you mainly run software, so are you saying you only run one software VA?! Bling, bling BLING!

Tomer-

I hope this is not off base or to personal, but i was looking at some old Astral projection and MFG album notes the other day (i forget on which) but there was a mention of a "Tomer" made me wonder if the 2 names are the same?????
sorry if this puts you on the spot

Tomer=Trance 03.05.2006 07:21 PM

i was half joking hollow but you know what i mean...
if your stacking synths, better get real analog or at least digital synths which use different methods of synthesis = Vsynth for is a good example for a "different" kind of synth.

Tomer is a common israeli name...

Tomer I can see what you are getting at, but have to disagree! I can defintely see the benefit of owning different synthesis synths. Sure VA synths use the same methods to get results (sounds), but each VA has its own color tone or oscillators. Therefore different sounds come out of different VAs if the exact same patch was programmed. A synth's sounds are all determined by the hands of the owner.

LOL - I got four of them (well, 2 + 2VA capable) and by the end of this week, will have 5. They are all very different.

I do keep thinking of a real analog, then think erm spend a fortune on a mono synth when about he only mono synth type stuff I do i deep bass lines where all I need is a good single osc and snappy envelopes and a good resonant filter. 1000-2000UKP for a moog doesnt exactly seem like a sensible use of loot when you consider what else could be had... :)

Little fatty looked interesting - but too crippled for the money...

So by friday should have a Radias parked on top of my TI :)

After playing with one for hours - I think they will make an excellent complimentary pair.

Man you have some cash behind you Khazul!
You might need a little more space soon though.

Hey hold on, wasn't the Machine drum on top of the TI before? What happened?

@Tommer. Yeah I know, I just had a shot, so I thought I'd kick ya before everone else got a chance. :D

Who says you need a MOOG for a mono synth???? What about MEK??? What about the Mighty Yamaha CS-10???? What about a SH-2 or similar????? These can be found rather cheap, and are fat as hell....

What about a SE-1???? There's some MOOG for ya...

No excuses mate!!!!! ;)

Things got moved around a bit since... - happens quite a bit depending on what Im doing. MD is on my desk most of the time now.

I love VA's but I also love my analogue modular. If at all possible and you have a couple of hundred ? then buy yourself a second hand one. You don't have to go big, a couple of osc's with 2 adsrs, vca. A good filter.
blah blah blah.

I know oakley sound systems have stopped selling but go to their site someone else is selling them. There is a massive synth diy community. Get involved and you'll get an excellent synth for very little money. Mine only cost ?300 to build. You can buy built units too.

I'd advise this rather than paying someone like moog thousands for a synth that has had its circuits copied and emulated in so many ways. (Not slagging moog, just wouldn't pay ??'s for something I haven't played and probably never will :( )

Kris

Tomer=Trance 06.05.2006 05:31 PM

you can build a nice 2nd hand synthesizer.com modular for less then 1500 US.

also the doepfer A100 systhem is massive.
i reckon you can ebay a decent one for less then 2000$

still lots of money,isnt it? :? :(

Smag 17.05.2006 12:12 PM

For the same price as a Ti you can get a Virus C and a Microwave XT
