What is it with the trance/dance crowd ?
Are they all lightweights ? For gods sake just PROGRAM the bloody thing, read the manual, twist a knob, press a button. |
Ah, Trelly - the young apprentice of mighty spacepirate Juho L.
Another progressiverocker! Now what was this thread about again? Ah, yes.. What types of sounds are you after Oyvind? (I pray to god that matsa doesn't see this thread.. He usually bashes my really bad english.) |

Access may as well have done a TI version of the XL for half of these guys... I allways through techno/trance was *very* much about fekking with the controls, programming, doing crazy chaining with the analog outs etc.. Seems everyone uses presets and digital outs now... sad.. |

And so many angry, jaded posts........ Each to his own, just because you like to design your own sounds, doesnt mean every other person in the world has to. And the fact that people use presets somehow makes their music worthless??? No fucking way! The whole world doesnt fit into your interpretation of "How things should be", so dont make them feel like they should, cos who says your way is the right way??? You??? Why the fuck should people listen to you??? OK, rant finished. I just seen a whole bunch of posts where you dont contribute shit, and just hang shit on people, so I felt like a rant. Feel free to rant back BTW |
You are pulling my leg aren't you ?
You mean to tell me, you have a Virus and DON'T intend to program your own sounds !!!!! Hang your head in shame and hand the Virus back to the store. |
Threlly, you really need to post some examples of your sound creation/music to be taken seriously. Only fair you back yourself up with a few MP3 demos.
The following really cracked me up though. Quote:
Should I take my Virus back too? :? |
Yeah you should.
If a sine wave produced by one keyboard has more 'bass' content than another, why should that be ? discuss. I Will post some examples soon enough, but they aren't synth workouts, it isn't that type of band, but you'll get the picture. |

I shall quote what I said just to make sure: Quote:
Just take it easy dude... and understand that just because people do things differently to yourself, doesnt automatically make them wrong, or mean they are less of a musician. |

Errrrrrr.....ok
This means what to me ? |
Only you can decide that.
|
yes
It was a question, and, it wasn't rhetorical |
A question only you can answer.
|
well I wouldn't post it if I thought that.
Hello (knocking noise)....anybody home. |

You'll have to give me a chance, I've only just reformed the band after a 14 year break, so they're mostly ideas and roughly mixed at that.
Also, they're not synth-heavy trance, and have lots of guitar and bass etc. When I've got something I'm happy to share, you'll hear it. |
I just wanna hear examples of the bass you have been able to get out of the TI...
|
I generally program the bass sounds to 'occupy' a frequency band that does not clip the kick or pump the low end of the guitars, also, we sometimes use a bass guitar, so careful EQ there of course.
You can make your own mind up when you hear it. |

Im not starting shit BTW, just want to hear some sounds, as you seem to know a fair bit about synths/electronics etc... |
Yeah, come on Threlly...
|
Tut tut, you boys.
Ok, I'll have a go if I can get some time this week. |

I must admit though....there is a personal satisfaction out of designing your own sounds for your own music....but I think I probably have more time o my hands than most... Quote:

Why would you buy a $2500 synth just to use the presets? Could have saved a fortune by just getting a softsampler like Kontakt for that :)
Nothing against presets (seeing as how I made 256 so far for the Virus), just seems odd to spend this much money for a preset player :) |

What a load of horseshit... Now, Im not saying I dont program my virus, I love programming it, and my other synths, but just because someone else is content to just use presets, doesnt mean you have the right to jump on them for it. IT'S THEIR FUCKING CHOICE! So get off your "I never use presets" high-horse. No one cares... OK, rant over. Feel free to rant back! :) |

Actually, I want to know what 'classic' tracks were made with presets only ?
Should be a giggle. |
A lot of my early classics were!

BTW, I wasn't on a high horse at all about people using presets, I really don't care one way or the other. Never said it was "wrong" either. Just seems like an expensive purchase to make for the intended use. Be like driving a Ferrari and never going faster than 35mph. Hmmm, maybe it's an image thing? |
This Thread seems to be "rather cold, industial and dark" for my liking

I know that when I bought my Virus (which was my first hardware synth) all I wanted was a synth that produced the nastiest bass I ever heard, and the options were the Virus or a Novation Nova, and the Virus won. This was judged by scanning quickly through some presets... |
But what does any of this have to do with horses that take drugs!?
Anyway, Now to throw a question up... 1: What happens if you are a synth programmer employed (for crappy pay) by a synth company to make presets for their flagship machine (which doesn't sync). Would using the presets be considered bad? I say YES god damn it!!! :D |
Horses taking drugs?
Hmmm, that might explain one of the scenes in The Ring. I never could understand the randomness of the scene where the horse commits suicide by jumping of the boat... eh??? |

Actually, I only ever had em once (or twice), they werent that cool, and I didnt even end up in the K-Hole! How fucked up is that... Or maybe I am still in the K-Hole??? :? |
