Korg Radias
I just watched the video over at SonicState.
It doesn't sound half bad at all. I'm looking forward to some more detailed specs though. |
I'm not impressed... Seems too "stock" :?
|
Reminds me of a MS2000 rehashed.
|
Sounds like a 24 note version of the MS2000
Sorry HC...but to me it sounds totally boring and uninpsiring. It sounds very 'Triton' exapnsion board(y) to me. Of course....im not one to judge a synth on the premise of its presets.......but plz....can someone just stick an analog filter on there.....that is the future of VA - Digital control of *everything* except the FILTER DS |
I think its a huge improvement on the triton series cheese machines.
Expensive for a rack machine tho - $1899 - whats the US RRP for NL3 rack and TI desktop for comparison? One interesting observation - price diff between keyboard and rack verion is only $100 - lol I guess that means korg are still using their utterly horrible $5 nasty keybeds still :) It does look cool - sounds very flexible. I thought the mp3 demos sounded quite good. The sound doesnt grab me the way the TI does of course, but I thought it was actually very good for a modern Korg synth. Maybe if the street price in the UK is half decent - might be worth a look, but I suspect it may end up being the most expensive rack unit given how high prices often end up in the UK for far east gear - I would guess we will see them for around ?1350+, maybe even ?1500+ to start with. Not exactly a "rush out and buy" price :) |
to me the vocoder sounded the only thing worthwhile there :D
i also support the assumption that this is an upgraded ms2000 engine. |
One of the Korg reps replied to the harmony forums to say it isnt. (Cant find the post at the mo - HC-KSS is being horribly slow atm) They basically re-used the user interface design because they had good feedback on it, but the resulting synth is completly new hardware abd software.
I agree - seeing the two machines side by side, it looks like the radias is the next iteration of the same - they are more similar than say virus C and virus TI. I do like the way the keyboard version is designed, but sadly korg make such f****** unbeleiveably nasty keyboards - ffs you get better keyboards in toys'r'us :) |
Mmm, don't really agree that it's a rehashed MS2000....

In a way it reminds me of the Z1 if anything. Which aint bad at all. |
I`d love one of these if the price wasn`t so retarded , is it really going to cost that much ?
I guess this is the replacement for the karma (which has now been dropped) . A v-synth XT rack is cheaper than that . I was expecting it to be around $1000-$1200 US  |
Yeah the price is a bit over the top isn't it.
Well in my opinon (which doesn't seem to be the popular opinon judging by this thread) this is still one of the more interesting synths from this years Namm. I hope I see one around that I can have a play with soon. |
Ive been listening to its demos a bit over last few days. I think its starting to grow on me a little - certaionly alot of flexibility in there.
I use to hate the Nord Lead sounds as well - but that is seriously growing on me as well to the point where I keep trying to stretch the TI to sound alot brighter :) Shame about the Radias price... |
And it may have gotten a little more interesting.
Hmm, wonder if you can expand the memory to make space for more recording?? Check out the new full video on SonicState. http://www.sonicstate.com/news/shownews.cfm?newsid=2677 |
Gets more interesting - I did like that PCM sound he played :)
Actually - for Korg, theres alot to like about the Radias - I usually hate Korg stuff :) $1699/$1799 - Probably translate to ?1499/?1599 in the UK - Ugh - expensive. I had a look at the screen shots that someone posted of the editors - I get the feeling there a quite a bit misisng from them that you can do on the hardware. |
The Radias certainly is very interesting. The analogue modelling comes from the high-definition Oasys AL-1 module, which is meant to be free from aliasing in the upper reg's.
What's also cool is the Radias can store and use formant/vox samples, I think I remember reading as much as 16 x sets of 7.5 second samples, which can be manipulated, vocoded, etc. Wonder if you can record via line-in, using normal samples? ie. not formant? I think Jerry at KorgUSA said the OS can be updated via USB so the possibility of Korg upgrading/tweaking the OS is there. |
Yup I'mn looking forward to hearing/reading about the formant record more. It depends on the formant quality to how well normal samples wil translate. If the memory is expandable then it may be a very cool little box indeed.
But.... Pretty damn pricey. |
I take it all back...
I just seen the UK prices for these things - they are CHEAP!! 1099UKP for keyboard, 999UKP for the rack. Im getting tempted ;) |
WHo in the UK is distributing the Radias for that amount? You got a link?
OT - im pissed Turnkey have marked up the MEK to ?850. Fuckers... DS |
I did a UK only google search for it after someone in the UK mentioned there was arriving soon:

New pic:
(pic found by Francois on the www.KorgForums.com ) Incidently there's a forum section on the Radias. http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpB...forum.php?f=45 The Korg bigwigs post on those forums too. Jerry Kovarsky (Korg USA) say they'll release some more screenshots soon. |
For anyone who cares Digital Village have stock of the Radias rack version in.
http://www.dv247.com/invt/31631/ Mine shipped today and should be here tomorrow. Will post some pics / sounds.....mebby ;) ten |
Nice one - congrats :)
Hows the XT turnning out? |
You know, I changed my mind at the last minute and went for the Radias instead.
After reading those forums you gave me, listening to demos and reading others opinions I just didnt think the XT right for me. I might look at one again later down the line though. ten |
Looking forward to hearing what you think it Ten! :D
And looking forward to some MP3 demos too. Speaking of XTs (I'm guessing you're talking about the V-synth XT though right?). I had a play on the Demo model one more time the other day, and it made me want it all over again. All the patches and waveforms I put into it were still there, so within 5 minutes I'd made a few more patches. If I keep this up their Demo XT will have no original sounds on it anymore. :D Such a fun machine!! |
Yep, will try and bang some up tommoz.
Thats right, the vsynth xt. I was all set to get one but after investigating it a bit more I just didnt think it was for me..... not yet anyway. Definately capable of some awesome original sounds though! ten |
Another namm radias video with some different sounds etc from other other...

It's definitely a perfect fit there.
Looking forward to hearing a few demos. |
Got the usb/midi driver installed with no problems and the editor software is running like a gem. Very impressive actually, every single param you could ever want is editable from this, very very cool indeed.
Heres a pic of it, sorry this might arse the thread size up a bit. I couldnt even fit all the windows on my 30 inch dell :) ![]() ten |
Nice shit! Lets hear the damn thing!!
|
Just read the SOS review a few days ago while I was away, and it looks like a very nice box indeed. :)
A dark horse, methinks. |
