Throwing in the towel...
I'm through with the TI. I've got a week left to return it and I've just had enough. It's just one thing after another. The majority of my problems revolve around the synth engine itself, and not to mention when running on host applications from Logic to Nuendo. And yes, I've tried the USB route and the midi/analog route. This thing is f***ed. I hope you can get your act together Access or you guys won't be around much longer. One more thing, I might have held on to it if you guys did a little better in the PR department. As it's been mentioned numerous times, people just want to know what the game plan is. From all the posts I've read it seems that only about 5% of people can actually get the TI working and then when only doing tedious workarounds, and only about 2% have no problems at all. You keep saying that each OS update things will get better, but they just seem to get worse. And I know what I'm doing with it comes to DAWs and Midi, etc. I've been doing this stuff for over a decade and have never experienced anything so frustrating. I've spent about 100 hours trying to get this thing to work and I'm done. Sorry Access, your plans were too ambitious. You've lost one loyal customer.

Sorry to hear that Guy. Things will change.....perhaps just not fast enough for you and others....
Im sure it'll all get ironed out by if and when the MKII comes out. Thats the one im holding out for. DS |
Yeah, hang in there... its a monster synth with so many great (b)leading edge attributes.
As you can see Access are dilligently working on and releasing bug fixes quite quickly. |

Only 2% eh? I can't help but wonder about all those contented TI users, too busy grooving and tweaking away to be even thinking of posting onto Internet forums. If I wasn't having a problem, would I be here reading this :? ? Mr O |
if i have to give back all the software and hardware i bought and run in studios because of teething problems...well ...then the music world is not for me IMHO
this is brand new technology and if it was working 100% i would have been skeptical if it was realy new access will get it working fine dude...or do you think they like pissing us off all day what i would like to get from the access guys is to give us guidelines in how to run this beast with other gear...the manual is realy just a glorified index with no substance ( if i have to compare to other hardware synths) |
.... its only been out a few weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i remember it took them 6 months or something to release the first fix for cubase.. so far we have had 3 updates in 3 weeks. |
I, for one, don't blame you at all. A month ago I spent $1100 on a microphone, and if I got it home and couldn't record a track without clicks, dropouts, or whatever, there's no way in hell I'd wait around for them to fix it. There's other gear that works. Virus C's work fine, and at half the price of the TI.
I can't afford to have gear that doesn't work right, and while I use a fair amount of software, the stuff that I use works, and I don't fuck with a working system. If I try out a piece of software (or hardware, for that matter), and it's buggy, sounds bad, or just doesn't live up to my expectations, it goes back to the store without a second thought. I make my living doing this, and I'm not tying up money hoping that the developer will come around at some point. Sure, they usually do, but that's money and time lost for me sitting on a piece of kit that's doing nothing but losing value. I was never worried about when the TI would come out, I figured they'd release it when they got it right...and I'm sure they're doing the best they can trying to get everything up to snuff, but the fact is that the TI just isn't right, and other manufacturers are simultaneously releasing a lot of products that operate on all platforms, and while there may be an occasional glitch on the occasional system, the stuff works. That's not the case with the TI, it's too far off in too many ways. I'd get rid of it, too. |
FanBoys got all the time in the world.
its true. when you spend money on something you expect it to work out of the box. you shouldnt be expected to beta test and document problems... this is why you pay a full consumer price. instead what may happen is all you kind folks that sort out all the bugs will be rewarded by seeing the price drop a few dollars next year. then the people that buy it at that time will have a full working product. funny how that works. |
Well i to make a living out of music so i totally agree with the points in this thread
I wonder if dj tiesto puts up with a faulty virus hmmm,.................. |

dj tiesto is a dj and not a pro music producer dude  |

Changing patches via the browser during playback does cause hiccups, but at least program changes are working with the Virus Control now, and they seem to work very smoothly. I know there are still issues that Access need to sort out, but I think it's fair to say that many of the problems people are experiencing are down to their hardware configurations. As the knowledge base expands, these problems will become known and readily resolved - and in the meantime, bugs will become fewer. |

Like we have seen, even universal audio and tc electronic cannot get their dsp cards to work with every system. And because TI uses usb and integrates to the existing system, it has the same compatibility problems as any dsp card has. Also the usb-chip and mobo affect directly to how the TI works. It's just impossible that it would be compatible with every system. If we take a look at the uad1 and powercore again, many people get clicks and pops, high cpu usage if the motherboard or the rest of the system isn't compatible. The same with Virus TI. Users have already been listing the working uad1- and powercore setups at uad1- and powercore-forums and maybe we'll have to do the same in here with virus ti. |
its true so many systems to make it compatible with..
and you change somethin for one system and it effects the others. its a balancing act. man at this point access must be kicking themself they didnt just add a few more features and drop the whole "TI" thing, and just make it the virus d. more trouble then its worth for them. |
If I had a week left to take it back, I would take it back now too.
You can always hold on to the cash and if the TI does get better (which I think it will eventually), then you can outlay the money again. Nothing lost in that case. Good luck with the choice. |
I use it in Multi mode with SX3 and have no real problems with it at all.
Thankfully. The sound from this thing is F*cking brilliant.... it trully inspires 8) |

same here...i love this fucking thing |
Can you stress your systems with the TI to the maximum as before or do the clicks and pops appear at some point?
|
I fucking hate my Ti now. Its buggy as hell - an unfinished product. Im so annoyed I cant describe it. I cant believe I waited a year for it!
If I could return it I would. Good sound when it works - shame i can rarely get it to make a noise. I wouldn't recommend this thing to anyone. grrr :( Royalston. Sx3.1 OS X 10.4.2 |

Since the latest update, this thing ROCKS! So inspiring and convenient. It's not perfect yet but it's REALLY usable :) |
This really amazes me. You people bitch when Access wont release the TI and even go to lengths by saying "I dont care if it is buggy, just release it and let them fix it along the way."
Access does just that and you are still not satisfied. For the love of pete, sell the thing on ebay, i just might buy it (at a discount of course). |
Hang in there Bill. Yes, the TI still has a few quirky issues, but even so, I find it to be bounds better than my virus c . . . and the TI is only going to get better.

So does it work in standalone mode? |
Mine works like a dream...maybe you guys need to look at your system specs or hardware you use...

It's like Ben said, this thing is a very complex piece of hardware...too complex. This thing absolute baffles me. I mean I'm familiar with tweaking all the parameters being a previous Virus owner, but the problems are so fluid on this machine. Honestly the best version I had was the Beta version when it first came out of the box. The thing was working like a dream (in standalone mode anyways.) Then after the first update, which I did shortly after owning it, things just started getting weirder and weirder. Ben asked someone if they can even get it to work in standalone mode...well I can't for one...anymore. Last night I tried reverting back to OS 1.03 and then everything really went to s**t. Sounds changing by themselves, frequent random outbursts of screaming digital noise, every sound whether in multimode or singlemode was panned to -64 on output 3L, etc. So I don't know. It's not worth the hassle. Yes my tracks would sound better with this machine, not just for it's sounds, but for the inspiration it provides. I loved tweaking my old a,b, and especially the KC. But alas I'm not a rich guy and can't risk the money for something that may or may not be fixed. And for anyone who's curious, here's my current setup:
RME Multiface Edirol 8x8 Allen & Heath PA12 Mixer Kurzweil K2500 Nord Modular Nord Lead 3 Yamaha Motif ES7 GT66 Tube Mic w/TC Helicon VoiceWorks Vocal Processor Event ASP8s 3.4Ghz PC running Windows XPsp2, 4GB, 2XRAID0 Nuendo and Waves 3 Also have an Apple PowerMac G5 single 1.8 Ghz running Logic that I don't use much anymore. |

After the update, did you do a reset? Try 1.05 again, and once it's done, pull the power cord out, and hold down Arp Edit whilst you plug it back in. If it is still behaving as oddly, I suggest you may well have a faulty unit. Good luck... |
Yeah I did a reset after the firmware update. The crackling went away, but then all these new problems starting cropping up. It seems like even when doing a reset that bits of old software are hanging about in the machine which could explain why things are progessively getting worse. Or it could just be that I have a faulty unit. I really want this thing to work. Is the Arpedit thing a complete factory reset or is there another reset mode? Anyways, I'll do a reset then install 1.05 and do another reset. Cheers.

Bill, first why don't you try and get a replacement one from your distributor, it might be a faulty unit.

MK II mean Mark 2.
For instance, the original DX7 came out in 1983 (known as the the MKI or Mark 1). In 1987 the MKII came out.....had loads of new features.....a better synth all round. As I say....im waiting for the MKII TI.....as i cant afford it right now. DS |

So far Access has never released a MKII of any of their Synths. I think that would be a bad policy. The bugs are sorted out by software updates. As if Access would release a MKII TI with all the bugs sorted and leave this one full of bugs, lol.
Don?t you think that would really piss people like me of that purchased the unit as advertised bug free? Your going to be waiting a very long time if you think that will ever happen. |
hahahaha virus TI mk2
btw. the dx7mk2 had better converters but a much worse keyboard... |
