keyfollower? assignable to EG freq?
 

Hello alltogether,
I don't own a Virus TI yet, so I'd like to ask you a question:

-Are there keyfollowers awailable as modulators? can you assign them to the EQ frequencies?

Yes to both answers, although only the Mid EQ Frequency is available as a mod destination.

there's another question: Can you turn off the audio processing / synthesis of the Virus TI Keyboard so that it serves as a Master Keyboard only?

Sure - if you set Midi>Local = Off, then the keyboard will only send note on/off info to the midi outs.

and what about the note info, aftertouch, modwheel etc. etc.???

does the Virus TI in this mode totally deactivate the sound processing (so that you could measure a much lower power consumption) or only avoid the MIDI Data triggering it?

Of course.

The midi data is routed only to the external ports, and not to the synth engine . That is the only difference.

another question that ain't worth a net thread:

is there kinda "Random LFO" and a Sample/Hold "module"?

Yep. There is also a Sample and Glide mode, which smoothly interpolates between random values, in contrast to the sharp jumps you get with S&H.

why is mid the only frequency that is a mod destination?

because it is the only eq band which makes sense to modulate in realtime, as it's effect is far more filter-like than the other two.

Just out of curiositly would it hurt to offer all parameters as destinations? I'm sure it would lead to more creativity, but I guess that may increase complexity to the average user.

Well for one thing, there are a finite number of mod destinations available - it doesn't make sense to waste them on parameters which would hardly ever be used in that way.

No - it won't. This decision was taken a long time ago when the C was developed.

Bear in mind that the Mid EQ Frequency range extends well into both territories..

I think the word 'finite' sums it up pretty much for me. For instance 3 LFOs seem pleanty even though some may want more. Like how many legs does a chair need?

Realy eq is not exaclty a staple synth parrameter, it's more a in the mix placement thing.

I wouldn't use an LFO as modulator, therefore, you are absolutely right, it would be pointless to modulate the high and low EQ since therefore, you better use filters which provide a much better result.

But what I want to do sometimes is to accent the "body" of the sound and lower the upper freq. bands and that configuation is not fixed like a normal mixing EQ but dynamic to the pitch. The selected accentuated freq. band is relatively fixed to the pitch - you give the sound a new coloration...

Hope I could formulate my intentions...

As far as the Low EQ is concerned, it is unlikely you would need keyfollow to affect this, as it will only boost frequencies that are there - bass frequencies don't tend to be present in high notes.

As for lowering the upper frequencies - there are two filters already (with keyfollow), plus a Lopass saturation type (with keyfollow if you wish) and Distortion type. These are 1-pole, and so very gentle in their effect. Both can be modulated with keyfollow independently.

I'm pretty sure you could achieve pretty much exactly the effect you want with the existing features.
