Yamaha CS10
Anyone know if these are any good?
![]() Hollowcell, you have one yeah??? Thinking about picking one up... Cheers, Jase |
I've been playing with one. They sure are great sounding machines acctually. I didn't think they wouldn't sound so good. The filters are _great_ (Then again, i am used to Reason's 3.0 filters so..) The oscillators are really great aswell but then again it was a CS10 that has been in the repairshops the last month so.. Well. In overall i really liked what i heard i'd love to own a cs-x0 someday aswell

The cs10 is a great analog bass synth dou to his fast and punchy evelope.
If you get a good deal on it,go for it! :D |
One of the most underated analogues out there, with one of the most aggressive filters - and considering you can run an external input into it, you get a cheap analogue filter box too! The bass that can come from this thing is warm and full. Amazing what a single OSC can do.
Go to my soundclick site and look for the CS10 demos there. Only a taste of what it can do. Run it through a distortion and delay and you're in heaven. Be carefull though Jase - you will be opening a can of worms getting an analogue. |

It's not cheap (CS10) but it looks in good nick. From Japan actually.... I might just bite the bullet and grab it. My GAS is really starting to hurt! |

is this the one? 250 dollars aprox is not that expensive IMO. Hollow, did you get this one midified with a kenton kit or are you using some new analog machine as a cv\gate box? |
yeah...thats the one!
It is around 80GBP for shipping though, pushing the price up to around $600 AUD ($US 451) Im in two minds whether to get it or not. DAMN GAS!!!!! |
450 dollars is rather a high price to pay for the cs10...
2 midify it will cost you another 80-100$ ... You can get an sh101 for half the price i belive. But then again if your gas is uncontrolable go for it. :D |

Although with some of those demos on my soundclick page, I recorded straight into the sampler, then triggered the samples with an appegiator, but running the outputs of the sampler back into the CS10's input - got a double pass of the filters that way and also gave me a computer synced feel. It's actually a reasonable keyboard to play live (for bass of course). That is pretty steep for one Jase. I got mine in mint condition (never loses tune at all and no scratchy knobs or anything) with an original hard case for around $120aus if I remember correctly - fucking bargin though!!! Recently the prices do seem to be going up on them for sure, but still $450us is pricey. Maybe let me know before the next ausi trip as it's too late to grab one now. :D I have to stop in at Sydney before heading to my home town, so maybe we could work something out. EDIT: Of course as the PSUs are inside the things, you'd have to grab a transformer or something if buying from overseas Jase. |

Let me know if you have any questions. Those Studer-pre-amps mixed with a little compression will be very nice with the CS for sure. EDIT: Japan runs on 100v, but I think the US is 120v. |
Well....just got confirmation that the CS10 has arrived in Sydney, has been processed for customs clearance, and is awaiting delivery :) :) :)
Should be here tomorrow....that'll keep the GAS under control for at least 6 months. Goddamm I have to work til 1:00pm, and I was planning to hit the gym after, AND I have uni in the evening. I wont be able to play the thing for a couple days, it will just be sitting there. |
It's here!!!!!!!
Damn....this thing is awesome :) |
whats wrong with you? 8O
post some sounds! |

Glad it finally made it to in good shape Jase!
Have fun! Let me know if there is anything worrying you that a fellow owner can try to sort out. Won't be online heaps in the month or so though (as I'm in Ausi), but I'll answer when ever I get on. :D |
Cheers HC...
I did have a question. There is a switch KBD with the option of S or M....what is this? Today I hooked it up to my Boss distortion, phaser, and delay units....had a ball!!! Am about to hook it up to my bass POD and have a play. |

A bass pod will go down very well with it for sure. I've found that specific bass effects work really well. If you have a valve pre, definiately run that before your distortion stage Jase - chunky!!! Certainly makes you wonder with all this talk about specs though doesn't it?! "No mine is better! It's got 6 OSCs and yours only has four". Pffff..... Have fun with it mate! |
Cheers HC...
Have another quick question. I tried to run my brothers electric bass into the CS-10 Input, but had no luck getting any sound. Is there anything specific I need to be doing to run signals through the CS-10? Hope you're enjoying your trip home! Jase |
First make sure you have the switch set to external up on the top left, then use that knob to set the triggering level.
Then the noise knob controls ext level signal. You know the S/M swicth we were tlaking about too. I'm pretty sure (from memory as I'm not infront of it) that you need that switched to the top setting to use the envelopes. That should be it... If those 3 things don't get it to work though, let me know and when I get back I'll sit infront of it and do a step by step for you. By the way, make sure you turn the saw/square waves right down if you want to use it as a filter box only, because the external sound will trigger the OSC too. |
Thanks HC!
I now have a mission for this evening.... :) |
