Lol

I'd approach it by FM and paraller filters (probably 2xBP or LP & BP). Then some saturation and voil

cheers ill start there ;-)

i think heavy compression is needed aswell to get "that" sound.

also try pysical modeling plugins.

Yep, heavy compression will turn any VA, Rompler or sampler into a bagpipe sound.

maybe

Hoho.

Essential is to get that reedish sound and when the base sound is ok the final touch is gained by pitch envelopes to create that "glitch" of a bagpipe.

This is along the lines of the way I'd aproach the sound too. I'd probably multi-sample a set of pipes that I could get a clean loop from (only of the tail though), then I'd work on the envelopes to mimick the bagpipe. I would attach evelope amounts to things like velocity and after touch to try and get the horrid nueance of the instrument. :D

Definitely the first time I've heard of someone trying to get a bagpipe sound digitaly! I'd be keen to hear what sort of tunes you guys are making actually.

Keithie_Boy 18.04.2005 07:58 AM

to be honest guys, i think the 'glitch' your talking about is are grace notes that the piper plays.

a set of midi pipes are going to be controlling the virus so i think that will be taken care of.

i only got my virus last week so im pretty new to it, where can i apply compression to a sound?

This is a good idea. Somebody should make a physical/additive modeling bagpipe vsti!!!!! They would make millions

Timo 18.04.2005 08:34 PM

The only synthetic bagpipe I heard was Orbital's, er, "Bagpipe Style" tune.

Tears of laughter whenever I hear that track. Comedy gold.

I think I even have that bagpipe patch preset somewhere. I think it was for the physical modelling board off the Korg Z1. PIssed myself when I first stumbled upon it.

There is a bagpipe patch in the tutorial bank that accompanies the "Programming Analogue Synths" PDF by Howard Scarr. You can download it at the Access site.
