Methods of coping with the wait for the TI
I myself bought some laptop that is supposed to arrive april 11th, so that gives me like 3 weeks of waiting for something else.
How the rest of you guys doing? Lol |
Well, ive spent the last couple of months speccing and building my new DAW while waiting for the TI.
Its cost a pretty penny but it should be worth it. Here is the run down of what it features.... 1) I'm participating / organizing a 4 day, 30+ band, concert for April 1st - 4th
2) I have a new CD being released April 1st 3) Busy planning a CD Release party for mid to late April 4) Beta testing a new synth & helping create patches for the final release... No, it's not the Virus TI :) 5) And the thing that will keep me the busiest over the next 3 weeks or so, is emailing Access 5-8 times a day and asking them if it shipped yet. |
That sounds like one sick pc Ten!
I want one!!! |
You'll have MI5 after you with a machine like that mate.

i just sleep doring most of the day... 8O

I bought the Vanguard VST Synth. not a bad price either. $89.99. It is helping my music creativity until I get the Virus TI. Really thick synths on this VST.
Check it out: http://www.refx.net/pro_Vanguard.htm?lang=eng |
This is my first post here; since I?m in the same boat and waiting for my TI I figured I?d chime in. My wait, for lack of a better word, it SUCKs. You see I recently sold my Studiologic 88 key MIDI controller and replaced it with a Roland V-Synth. The V-Synth was fantastic and had huge potential. However My V-Synth was defective and kept losing patches and it would send erroneous MIDI data. So I returned it. Unfortunately now I have no keyboard. So I have nothing to play. I am currently also waiting for the new V-Synth XT. On top of all that, my rock solid Akai DPS 24 started acting up, so now it is out for repair. My studio is a ghost town; big empty spaces where gear once resided.
I console myself with the knowledge that things will be much better when my gear gets in. Now I?m trying to learn Cubase SX3 so when my gear does FINALLY get here I will be more or less ready to get down to business. |

great specs !!! :!: |

wouldnt it be a better idea to have a good master keyboard and a desktop version like the V synth xt ? |

Its cost roughly ?4000 ($7600) give or take. Ive been very lucky with some of the parts and got them dead cheap, should last a while though :)

Damn man I wish that I had that kind of money to throw around, I would have gotten a new mini-moog.

or a 40 dsp kyma system.

That's funny ... I did something similiar.
Took the money I was saving for the TI and went on a spree last week updating my DAW: New as of last week: 2 x 250Gb SATA drives configured as Raid 0. Matrox P650 RME HDSP 9652 3 x Behringer ADA8000 Presonus Central Station Presonus Eureka 2nd UAD-1 with Precision Limiter Spectrasonics Atmosphere ImpOscar Vanguard )these last 2 may well be a replacement for my Virus they are that good). I saved the best for last: 2 Dell 24in LCDs: -grimley http://home.comcast.net/~grimleyj/ |

As for the V-Synth XT, well it hasn't been released yet, so I'm also on that waiting list. I just figured out I like NI Kontakt, but a new 2.0 version is being released this month but it still isn't available.... Waiting SUCKS. |
My wait for the TI just got a little longer
I considered myself patient enough to wait for the release of the TI. I pre-ordered the keyboard version in November and won't be charged until it ships. I decided to cancel my pre-order, because I just purchased the V-synth. After much debate with myself about it, I felt like the missing piece was this "sonic mangler". I really love the idea of being able to sample or import anything and in real time be able to freak it and make it sound like no one else. I already have a Motif ES7(for acoustic and drum sounds) Nordlead 2(for va) Juno 60(for analog) and I play guitar and bass, so... The possibilites are infinite. But it won't be complete without a Virus TI. I used to have a Virus kb and sold it to get the TI back in December. I know it will take some time to get to know the V-synth,so I will sit back and see how the first batch of TI's handle and in a few months who knows. A month ago if someone said that I would buy another synth before the TI came out I woud've laughed. I believe I read a post on this sight about the V-synth and that peaked my curiosity. It's not something that can replace the TI, but certainly will add more originality and satisfy my tweak tooth!

I'm just biting my nails waiting... |
Hi Ten
Are you running Cubase on that machine ? |
I kind of gave up waiting for the TI months ago. I've been filling my rack with some cheaper synth modules and I don't regret it. In fact with the price of a TI you can buy lots of different cheaper synths. You can decide whether you buy just 1 synth module or 5 synth modules from which you get alot of different kind of sounds, lots of outputs and polyphony and about 5 times the TI's knobs too.
|
Hi midi, yea will be running sx3.
ten |
seeing as i already have a virus b if i had ?1500 to spend i would do what f5d would - buy lots of modules! expand my options and my working sound palette. i would buy a juno 106, a second hand nord lead 2 and maybe a pair of decent monitors. and still have chump change left over to buy ice cream.
how good is that?! |
Well I have to admit all this waiting was really starting to get to me since I had no keyboards to play. So I did a little shopping over the weekend and picked up two new controllers; A M-Audio Keystation 88 Pro and a Kontrol49 plus I got one free a MS-20 with the Korg legacy Collection software (KLC). I played with the KLC for a few hours over the weekend and I love it? I was hesitant to get involved with software synth after my less than enchanting experiences with Reason. I felt it sounded cardboard? Just not real, but this new KLC is something else. It sounds just like hardware and perhaps even more important to many, thanks to having lots of controllers it feels just like hardware. This is great if, like me, you hate turning knobs with a mouse. It was the free demo version available on Korg?s website that really sold me on it. My confidence in software has been restored. I still have hardware and there will always be a place in my studio for really good hardware synths. The TI is still on my list, provided it can impress me. But now I know it will need to be pretty dam good to compete with the new breed of software that is out.
I also have Native Instrument?s Komplete 2 on order which includes Reaktor 5, Absynth 3, Kontakt 2, Battery 2 along with a ton of other stuff. Granted I do hear that Kontakt 2 is buggy, but all version 1.0s are so no surprise there. At least now I can satisfy my creative needs. I say, if the wait drives you nuts and you have the cash to spare, look into getting some software to play with. Just make sure you get a good controller to go with it. It makes a world of difference to the whole experience. I think many here will love the KLC, it really is an awesome piece and at $499 will hardly touch your TI fund. You can check out the demo at Korg?s website, I think they really nailed it. Now for the first time in awhile I don?t really care if the TI takes two weeks or six months to be released, because I can make tunes either way ;-) |

I never really thought I would cancel my preorder, but the time has come. I will be contacting my supplier this afternoon to see what sort of deal he can wrangle me on a lead2x and a DS evolver. cheers blay |
Blay....im thinking of buying a N2x aswel m8. Just gonna use that and pick up a TI in a years time......
Ive gone off the idea of A6 because I'd like to set some money aside for the TI when it does finally come out *the upshot of it is.....I need a synth....ive been without one since Sept 4th '04. Thats a painfully long time DS |
I bought a Ghost console with the TI money, and am about to purchase a new laptop. I had the money for the TI since last year, but bought a 2nd-hand Indigo to tide me through until the TI is fully released.

Wow a lot of people seeing the light here. The truth is there's no sense in just sitting around waiting on the TI to be released. We have no idea what the nature of the holdup is and no way of knowing if we are looking at weeks or even years. Why waste you creative energy being frustrated when you could get something else and use that energy making music now?
Reality check... To date no hit songs have been made on a TI, so we know it is possible to make killer tracks without one. Since I got my new stuff I've been a lot happier. It's great! I'm not waiting for the TI anymore. I look at it this way, if the TI comes out and it's wonderful, then I'll get one, if not or if it's just OK then big deal, at least I haven't wasted all my time for nothing. Don't put you life on hold waiting for some magic product that's gonna make your next song killer. Use your talent to do that. Believe me, even if the TI is released and is every bit as powerful as hyped up to be, it will still pale when compared to some of the soft-synths out there and they are much less costly. Fancy gear is nice, but the most important component will always be you. So stop wasting ?you? and find a way to start making music now! :D |

Anyone fancy a software Vs Hardware debate???? Cos I smells one comin on :) |

gimme hardware anyday :D cheers blay |
If the Ti has importable/customisable wavetables to rival Z3ta+, I'm sold!
Ok, i'll shut up now. :) |

Buy an andromeda, if you think the waiting for the TI gets too long. You won't be disappointed if you have experience in sound programming. Virus sure has more great presets to play with but the andro just sounds so cool. I have been programming some new incredible sounds with my A6 lately. I have now got further into the synth and I can say that it can sound great when you know how to use the modulations etc. It's just so damn complex at first. Now I know maybe 20% of what the synth can do (the basics). There's so much tweaking. I will put a link to a demo mp3 maybe in a near future...
|
F5D....yeah..if you get the chance plz post an MP3. Cheers bud 8)
DS |
seconded... I'd love to hear the Andromeda.
In fact... why are we waiting for a digital synth when the Alesis is the real deal for the same price? Can someone help clear my head about this.. I'm confused, and having doubts... |
The A6 is indeed of the same price....and its also nice to know that when you buy one...it wont be superceeded (ever!). If your after strict analog sounds....then the A6 is naturally a better choice.
DS |
that's not what I needed to hear!
I needed to hear: "...Shut up you dick, Virus TI is the absolute shit. You don't reaaaally need Analogue, especially when the Total Integration increases your productivity and lets you focus more on creative practice than setting up time consuming recording channels/routing..." ... but thanks for being honest anyway... Anyone else considering getting an A6? |
