Well, I did it!

I bought a V-synth. Should be here by end of next week. I just moved down from the TI|Keyboard to the desktop model. That is it for me. So long for the new computer for awhile. At least til I can save up some more $$$$$.

jasedee 29.01.2005 10:49 PM

Congrats.....you lucky B*stard!!!!!!

harrystainer 29.01.2005 11:13 PM

Nice choice Merlot.

I envy you coz I won't be able to afford anything like that for a long while now as I just blew a load on a set of monitors. (Mission Pro SM6A) there is a pic of them in the studio pics area.

Hollowcell 29.01.2005 11:57 PM

As soon as I read the thread title I knew what you were going to say.

I am more jealous than I can even put down in words!

I'm looking forward to comparing patches when I end up with one - someday. :(

tranzash 29.01.2005 11:57 PM

Expecting your Vsynth demo soon :D

Merlot 30.01.2005 01:08 AM

sounds good all. I will be sure to post some examples of what it can do once I get my head around it. i cant wait to run the TI through it!
Hopefully it is money well spent, b/c i had been saving up for a long time. I was going to get a new computer and the TI, but decided my powerbook was fine and did this instead.
HC - Defenitely want to mangle some of those drum loops you come up with.
Tranz - we ought to do like a G2/V-synth mangle!

No problem.

You might wanna think about getting a flash ram card for the V-synth too by the way. Makes it very easy to boot with all your own samples and stuff.

Did I say I was jealous?

I need to check, but I know you can stream stuff back and forth via the USB cable. Dont know how fast it works, but it will have to do for awhile, since I am broke now..

Hollowcell 30.01.2005 09:21 AM

That's true, but from what I've read, people seem to prefer loading in from the flash and adding new waves from USB. I supose it's along the same lines as storing patches in the machine rather than loading new patches from the computer everytime.

At any rate, you can store a fair few waves without a flash card at first. I know if I was getting one though, all new waves would be going into the thing.

You are one lucky man!

Update: It arrived today, but I am work til 11pm tonight. It is shaping up to be a long night tonight! I will post some examples whenever I get me head round it.

Call in sick tomorrow; if you don't you are a FOOL! 8O

Congrats Bro!

Enjoy the new beast!

tranzash 04.02.2005 11:37 PM

No sleep for you tonight. Enjoy :D

Timo 05.02.2005 12:01 AM

Nice one merlot. :) V-synth is on my own wish list..... Someday preferably in this decade, after a heap of other purchases.

Looks like an excellent feature set, and bet it offers a complete host of new synthesis possibilities.

Would indeed be great to hear any demos. ;)

Hollowcell 05.02.2005 12:33 AM

Three words for you...

Sample, sample and then sample.

Get rid of the preset waves and start fresh. So many possiblities you have at your fingers there.

You are one lucky guy mate. I'm damn jealous. I'm very close to a big sell-up to get one myself.

3o3 05.02.2005 12:31 PM

Hmm, i'd want one too.

Congratz!

Hollowcell 07.02.2005 08:29 AM

Well?

How is it Merlot? Initial impressions - good or very good?

Merlot 07.02.2005 04:45 PM

Amazing. I havent even imported my own samples yet. I have just been messing with the ones installed. I went throught the guide book, snd sm working my way throught the manual now. Manual is defenitely better written than the 8080 I had.
This thing can magle sounds beyond belief. The VA section is not bad either. The 303 filter on it is about as juicy as they come.I will fill in some more when I continue to get into it.

MADSTATION 07.02.2005 06:07 PM

Nice!

I might end up selling my jp8080 and get this beast instead...

However, I will wait for the TI and see if I still really need more stuff :)

Wandering Kid 07.02.2005 07:45 PM

normal v synth or v synth v2/xt? i know its out of my price range, but the V Synth XT is fast becoming the only synth i *really* want this year. i think ill have to get a job to fund this one...

I have the v-synth keyboard.

3o3 07.02.2005 10:12 PM

The V-synth XT is too bloody expensive here in sweden.

18.995:- SEK bah. better to get an 2nd hand v-synth instead, argh i want one

Merlot 07.02.2005 11:44 PM

Yeah,
I would defenitely recommend one. The wavetable you can create by slowing a sample down are nasty:twisted: (i mean that in a good way!) . Just getting into it, as I had to work all weekend. But the 303 filter is juicy, as is all the amp modeling on it too. I am going to load in some of my own samples tonight and mangle them. Once I get some webspace up and running again (notice the avatar is gone), I will post before and after sounds.

3o3 08.02.2005 12:01 AM

Sounds cool Merlot, I am really looking forward for some 'own' patches instead of the presets

Me too!

I have to admit, I'd rather the keyboard version than the rack too actually. Price is one factor, but the hands on controls to everything is another.

If only they didn't put the V-cards and that colour screen in the rack - maybe then it would be cheap enough for everyone to get their hands on.

If you all had a V-synth what sounds would you put into it first?

Recently I have been making sounds on my sampler using power-tools (fucking evil sounds I tell you), so power tools are what I'd be putting in first.

Fuck I've gotta get one of these boards! It's driving me nuts. Dream "If" questions are even coming out of me now. :(

I'd would take small clips from my own sampled sounds and just tweaked the shit out of it.

Wandering Kid 08.02.2005 10:06 AM

i guess i wanted the XT also cuz it has the jp8000 analogue modelling engine built into it :( it would be like getting 2 great synths for the price of...well...2 great synths. 303 is right - it costs a fricking fortune.

Hehe, classic line there WK! :D

Just so you know, you don't have to buy the XT if you want the JP stuff, as the V-synth keyboard has the Supersaw and feedback OSC too with OS version 2.

The keyboard doesn't have the D50 or vocal card built in though.

Merlot 10.02.2005 04:10 AM

Just an update. i will be getting some webspace again on the 15th of the month. i will post some stuff I have been working on then.

BTW, everybody get one of these. The Vari engine is so cool. I took a vocal sample of a girl singing, mangled it, ran it through sideband filter, aand some other fx, and it ended up sounding like pounding rain and thunder.
