What's that sound?

Alright, i am quite bored right now. So let's post what you are listening to then

Right now my winamp is blasting some swedish 80ies pop-music in the form of "Freestyle - Fantasi".

Per Gessle from Roxette's old band (which doesn't make it any better however i've got some good memories from this tune.. hehe)

3o3 15.11.2004 07:18 AM

Err - alright then; winamp changed from that tune to

"Imperiet - M?rk hur v?r skugga" (which was originally written by Carl Michael Bellman sometime during 17th centuary), even if this tune has been done in many versions; Th?str?m (who started bands like; "Ebba Gr?n", "Peace, Love & Pitbulls" and "Imperiet" duh!) has done the best version yet (and still he says; it's the worst version and i just wished i never did that one).

My father played this tune many times for me when I was little, so this is really special for me. Infact when I used to sing this alot when I was younger and got into many fights with other kids that wanted to sing 'childsongs'.

This is probably a song that Juho would love (even if it's in swedish h?h

3o3 15.11.2004 07:47 AM

I am still very bored so i'll just spam abit more in this thread.

Winamp is blastin' sweden's best prog. rock/alt. rock-group "National Teatern". This I am sure that Juho would love. (and the rest of you aswell - even if you'd probably understand nothing about the lyrics)

The whole album is recorded in a apartment in a suburb to Stockholm which was / still is 'famous' for be a quite rough area (everyone in Sweden, will know what suburb it would be if i would mention the name), however i never felt more safe than when I was living there.

Argh! I wanna do something. Post something intresting

jasedee 15.11.2004 09:13 AM

Right now, iTunes is playing Jeff Buckley-Grace. Bloody amazing song!!! One of my all time favorites I would have to say. Actually, I am going to put this in my:

Jase Top 10 list

Not sure exactly where in the top ten it will reside, somewhere in between Mazzy Star- fade into you and Lou Reed - Perfect day

So now a new question to everyone: Whats your top 10?????

3o3 15.11.2004 10:34 AM

Lou Reed - Perfect day. Err - My Winamp as we speak playing this.

That tune is really great.

I gotta get back to you on that Top 10 list

blay 15.11.2004 10:37 AM

Very good choices, very good. And it's even progressive, which means it's good. Hoho.

Np. Weather Report - Barbary Coast

The Jaco Pastorius touch... Why all the good musicians die too young.

Radiohead is weird band. I just can't find anything good in it. It's just bloody depressive music and makes me feed bad. I'd probably would shoot myself if I'd have to listen to Radiohead for an hour or more. Some people love it and some hate it.

The Nice - Happy Freuds

Late 60's vintage Emerson.

Last: Liekki - Korppi

Finnish retro rock with Jethro Tull'ish sound. Nice.

you mean to say Juho that radioheads music does not possess ONE quality which you would think worthwhile mentioning?

I understand what you are saying about the mood that their music creates - but the purpose of good art is to make you feel or think something.... you say this music makes you so depressed you want to kill yourself - well, i think it made you feel something (theres one good thing  )

jasedee 21.11.2004 04:54 AM

Juho is right to an extent, as you said Blay.....alot of Radioheads music is a bit hard to swallow for some, but there are some really beautiful songs they have made....just gorgeous. They create deep atmosphere and layered soundscapes, AND, they go against the mainstream, manage to top album charts, and make millions!!!!!!

Living the dream mate ;)

I only wish I were there, wierd music or not

id give up my air-guitar and reconsider my career as an air-roadie if these guys would let me work for them (and maybe one day work my way up to air-engineer)

i saw an interview with radiohead once where they said that creep is their least favourite song of all their material - everyone just jumped on it and it became a hit, and now they are more than sick of listening to it purely because it lacks the musical inspiration of a lot of their other pieces.

i must say in some of radioheads songs i get the feeling tom didnt get enough breast milk as a baby and is still crying about it

I prefer the more abstract soundscape stuff...the newer stuff, with all the electronica elements.....and some of the dreary, kill yourself stuff is great too. Im a real sucker for a song that brings tears to my eyes, and alot of Radiohead stuff does it for me....songs that give an insight into ones soul and inner workings of their twisted mind, thoughts, and desires.......

I hate to be cliched and cheesy, but with alot of Radiohead stuff, you really can feel immense emotion. hate, lonliness, despair....it's fucking great :)

And nothing for me to listen to in other words. hehe

Juho L 21.11.2004 11:29 AM

Last summer I were driving to Turku with few friends and in one point someone inserted OK Comptuer into the CD player. During few minutes everyone were silent and after that everyone collectively agreed to remove OK Computer from the players. ?hih. We would probably have had a car accident without that removal.

Np. Jarkko Martikainen - Kaikki me kuolemme pian

Martikainen's - a vocalist of YUP - solo album stuff. Very nice acosutic tracks.

i struggle to see how that is being cheesy jase.
a piece of anything - be it music/painting/sculpture - is worthless (and is not art as such) unless it makes you feel or think something.

the more you feel or the more you think - the better the piece
