It should be called the Access Virus Camp instead of the Classic!

Pink with a bright green screen is very pretty indeed! 8O

This one is probably coming out along side the Virus Plague keyboard. :D

so its a rack in the shape of a desktop
why not get a virus b and have the same thing with more voices, mod. matrix and outputs?

edit:
ok got it translated from french and it seems its coming out this spring
they are going to sell the virus b in the shape and sound of the virus rack clasic and adding more voices and effects that the rack clasic doesnt have and called it virus b clasic

Timo 19.03.2004 07:20 PM

Thanks Steve! I am so looking forward to getting it. :)

I think there might be a new Access synth model somewhere on the horizon, as Sound-On-Sound are running a competition (open to all countries, not just the UK) to win a Virus-C, whereby you can suggest a new name for a synth and briefly suggest possible marketing ideas for the new name/synth in a 'tie-breaker'. Subtle, but indicative, methinks! The competition runs until the end of this month, so if the answers/data are indeed collected and passed on to Access, they will probably most likely not be useful in time for Frankfurt, but maybe they will use the ideas/names for a possible release in summer NAMM, or similar... Just an mere idea/observation, though. ;)

I don't think the sound on sound thing will be a VA. We are already saturated.

Tomer=Trance 20.03.2004 05:11 AM

could be an intergrated synth using several technologies

It has landed:

I just got my issue of Keyboard magazine yesterday and they already have an advertisement for it in the magazine.

Tomer=Trance 26.03.2004 02:58 PM

i wonder if this will couse more rack clasic updates aswell

Timo 26.03.2004 04:46 PM

So it's basically a Virus B desktop, re-instated in rack-form?!

Are there any differences from the Virus B to the Virus Classic (apart from the colour)?

thnx

Timo 26.03.2004 04:48 PM

I was hoping/expecting a successor to the Virus C

Tomer=Trance 26.03.2004 05:05 PM

Isn't this more or less a model not as powerful as the Virus C, but more powerful than the Virus B? Why'd they do this?

I think it's Virus B with some more program flash to get new OS updates. At least I remember a mention that the updates of Virus B became tricky as the program flash started to run low.

To make the sellers of Virus B unhappy and the buyers of second-hand Virus B's very happy.

ben crosland 26.03.2004 07:44 PM

There is no difference between the Virus Classic and the Virus b, save for the colour-scheme, the newly-selected preset library, the re-designed manual and the included 19" rack ears.

ben crosland 26.03.2004 07:49 PM

And FWIW - I'm not convinced that this will affect the price of a used b too badly. I mean I sold my b about 2 years ago now for ?600, which was an average price for one back then. By now, they can't really be fetching much more than ?530, and I think you will still be able to get about that - it's still ?300 less than a new Classic. Virus' have always held their value very well, and I don't why that shouldn't continue to be the case..

saba 26.03.2004 10:23 PM

That, and when you buy the newer model you get a warentee, and its pristine and new.

Its there for new members to the Virus synth club, for which it is arguably a first or second synthesizer, and money is tight.

It's overkill painted in pretty colours!

A new synth with a quality of sound that matches the already well flooded (but great) Virus series please! Of course, only matching the quality and not the actual exact same sound  .

Actually scratch that! How about just programming more new filters for the C series! :D

Timo 27.03.2004 05:53 PM

That new colour's offensive! I do hope the Waldorf boys haven't taken over the styling and aesthetics for Access!

Virus Classic Presets

I just bought a Virus b and was wondering if I could update my b with the new preset banks in the classic?

Thanks,

DK

You should be able to install banks A and B with no problem. Just download the OS for the Classic, and look for the abm.mid file in the Goodies folder.

I'm afraid you won't have much joy trying to install the ROM banks. Whilst the patches are compatible, they are installed using a sysex file similar in format to the OS itself. These files have a signature at the beginning which means they can only be accepted by that particular model.

Digitalkidd 09.08.2004 10:14 PM

Damn....the classic sounded so awesome. I was thinking I could just buy a Virus B and update the patches and have a classic.

Thanks...I'll look at the OS from the classic and grab the .mid file you mentioned.

DK

Digitalkidd 14.08.2004 03:49 PM

Does anyone know what the main difference is between the virus B and the Classic?

THe brochure on the classic mentions it has the heart of the virus B, but that's it.

Hardware/software Differences....I understand my virus B won't be a classic, but why?

ben crosland 14.08.2004 03:59 PM

There is technically no difference between the two models - the specifications are exactly the same.

No, you're quite wrong Tomer! It is essentially a Virus B.

*24* voices/ *3* osc+sub etc, etc..

Panopticon 14.08.2004 09:08 PM

I thought they were the same except for the graphic scheme and an updated soundset...

Hey Ben,

I took a look I took a look at the classic OS and there is no ABM.mid Just a bunch of first and second prefixes.

Is there any other way to try and get the new classic patches on my virus b?
