The worst GAS in ages

It struck like a lightning from clear sky: The horrible GAS*!

Maybe I'm selling my Virus and buying Waldorf uQ, XT and a controller keyboard for a replacement. I'd have to sacriface the easy user interface, but I'd get much better and unique sounds. Tough decision. I WANT NEW GEAR! ARRRGGH!

I don't see no reasons why not to sell my kB. The uQ can do mostly the same job as my Virus does and the uQ also offers some additional functions that Virus can't offer. With XT I could make really nice pads. So by replacing my kB with uQ and XT I'll just expand my sound palette.

I can't get money from somewhere else. I'm a student.

The GAS gets worse. Maybe getting a Q-rack and XT? Hmm...

Q and XT would be much better synths for my need because they can create much better pads and some special sounds due wavetables and other fancy things.

saba 07.11.2003 03:46 AM

Be warned! The XT series still has a lot of bugs, and the ?Q still has a few, and Waldorf aren't doing anything to address them.

on the subject of "GAS". i may be going thru a spot of it myself.

maybe u guys could talk me out of it, or into it!

ive noticed a keyboard going cheap here in japan. ive seen a korg ms2000 for a little cheaper than a micro korg. the price is around $275 (us) or $440 (ausi). the micro still is around $325 (us) or 520 (ausi) here.

is it worth me picking an ms2000 up for an extra sound source?

opinions are welcome.

I have been relieving my gas by buying some mono jacks and fixing and making more cables. A little soldering may ease the gas.

I'd say get one Hollowcell. Try to find a rack version since you have a keyboard. There are plenty for sale here too. They are dirt cheap now. The microkorg doesn't have the analog type sequencer or the easy interface. I have to say it took me a while to get something new out of this thing. It is great along side the virus.

I want to mount it on top of my Indigo like the Akai mfc 42 on an mpc.

Hollowcell 07.11.2003 06:43 AM

yeh i thought about the rack version. i may just look into picking one up i think.

My GAS News: Got an offer to change my kB with Nord Modular. Now I'll just have to fight me a good cash payment. Modular and 500,- sounds good.

Tomer=Trance 07.11.2003 12:04 PM

great deal

Tomer=Trance 07.11.2003 04:56 PM

1700 for a nord modular generation 1 8O and 4 years old 8O 8O 8O
i think new they cost about 1200 dollars :D
get one from ebay insted for 800-1000 euro

3o3 07.11.2003 05:27 PM

Nord Modulars Racks are going for around ?700 here in sweden with DSP-upgrade. Add ?50-?100 and you got the keyboard version of it.. Since G2 is coming out every swede with an NM are selling them so they can afford the G2 instead.

in other words its not that good deal juho.. Virus B are going for around ?800 here, but the KB is going for around ?1000-1200 even more if its really in mint condition

1700 euros when it was purchased in 2000.

however i think that it is an great synthesizer for you Juho.. Virtual Modular patching. :)

You could probably make some nice sounds from that one. but still its not that great deal - your probably better off changing to an Q instead - and buy an microModular (yes only 4 voices but you can still make nice sounds from it.. and its really really cheap.. ?200 new here in sweden and ?100 used) :)

I haven't asked does that Modular have DSP upgrade. He's asking about 800 euros.

I just checked out that programming software and noticed that even simple patch (master osc & 2x slave oscs, 24dB filter with ADSR envelope) takes over 30% of the processing power! Good grief I say! Or then the program shows the Micro Modular usage. If that usage is for the Modular I won't get that because with polyphony of three there's no change to play chords with pads.

Gaah! Maybe I'll try to sell my kB for you Swedes (or may I say swedes) and get Modular from there!

Juho L 08.11.2003 10:44 PM

The GAS is on active state. Due the genious planning with 3o3 I have widened my GAS view. Hmm... Nord G2... Gaahhhhh... *drool on keyboard*. Or then maybe not.

Gaahhhh... G2 with Korg Triton... Ghhhhh... Active monitors... Ghaaaaa... *death due dehydration after unnormal slobber secretion*

Back to reality then.

3o3 09.11.2003 10:57 AM

I missed the annual "synthesizer festival" in stockholm a couple of weeks ago.. if i hadnt i would have played around with the G2..

From Waldorf to G2 - hey Juho and me are going to have every synthesizer built from the A to ?.
