What is the Fattest sounding synth you have ever used?

The fattest sounding synths ive ever used are:

Mono/Poly
Pro-One

How about you guys?

DS

Tomer=Trance 06.07.2003 09:18 PM

TB303
MC202
Virus :D hehe
Jupiter 8
the juno's are kind of fat.... :)
MOOG!!! every thing that guy ever did!! :twisted:

DIGITAL SCREAMS 06.07.2003 09:23 PM

Seriously Tommer have u tried out all those synths?

Even a JP-8 ??!!!

muhahahah

Personally I wouldnt say the 303 is that fat sounding (1 osc!). Yep the Juno 60 is very fat for just 1 osc....thx to the great analog chorus. Moog yep there pretty nice. Virus....ermmmm wot u running it through lol j/k

unio mystica 07.07.2003 04:09 AM

Virus
Jp-8000

DIGITAL SCREAMS 07.07.2003 08:21 AM

Unio....you got a JP8000?

I think the JP8000 has some very good digital sounds in it :)

DS

unio mystica 07.07.2003 08:54 AM

Thats all you have? Take it from me m8....its ALL you need!

I went wrong by buying too many synths! Its a head fuk when uve got too much gear.

DS

Tomer=Trance 07.07.2003 03:02 PM

well its good to have only few
a main synth -something with alot of power
maybe a drum machine of you realy need it
a sampler maybe and a multi fx too

learn how to work perfectly with thos then when you feel you want to add another\different sound into your tracks get another synth (thats what im doing now) still dont need another synth but soon i will get one (not another VA')

DIGITAL SCREAMS 07.07.2003 04:09 PM

Yeah thats right Tommer.....its better to have less equipment but to know how to use it. BTW if your gonna get another synth....get an analog mono...maybe a Waldorf Pulse.

By the sounds of it...thats what your setups needs.....some REAL analog!

DS

Despistado 07.07.2003 04:55 PM

Virusb
JV 1080

Tomer=Trance 07.07.2003 06:33 PM

why mono? :wink:
nah i'll get something polyphonic i like to play big chords :)

TommyS 07.07.2003 07:16 PM

You want a Nord G2.

The most powerful synth ever.

:D

psynpose 07.07.2003 07:32 PM

Fat synths

For shear power you can't beat a 303 through an old valve distortion like that peavey one, the SH101 is very tasty for bass lines and acid fx, and the pulse is definitely a wise purchase, it's very powerful and versatile even though it's mono and not multitimbral and it only cost me ?145 including postage! You can get the pulse plus which only costs about 160 which has a built in midi cv converter.

Pete

Tomer=Trance 07.07.2003 07:36 PM

what is the difference between the pulse and the pulse+
and i fear from the G2 :D (moster)

TommyS 07.07.2003 08:49 PM

The only classic synth I`d ever think of buying is a tb303. In a few years the sound from VA`s will just a close as real analogue.

:D

Tomer=Trance 07.07.2003 08:55 PM

yeah i guss
you should think about geting an mc202 too :)
its like an upgratede tb303
some ppl call it tb202 :D

TommyS 07.07.2003 10:48 PM

I`d rather have a 303, so I can jump around the room tweaking the filters in a frenzy like some one out of Altern8. :mrgreen:

I really hope Roland make a future hardware version of the 303, cause some sad day there`ll be none left. Whats gonna happen then?

udenjoe 08.07.2003 07:03 AM

I'd think if a company was smart enough they would produce a small analog synth with midi for under $300. There is definitely a market for it.

Well thank god the original 303 is a monophonic analogue synth. There are paople/manufacturers making affordable monophonic synths right now.....its only a matter of time before someone build an identicl replica.

Personally I want to see a manufacturer re-make the Jupiter 8, OB8 and Prophet 5. I love the sound of these old classics...and Iwill be mighty pissed off when I can no longer use them.

OK the Andromeda A6 is still far too expensive......but im thinking that an 8 voice (Jupiter 8, OB8) or 5 voice (Prophet 5) would be appreciably cheaper to make. Compared to the A6 these old classics had a very simple archetecture....no built in effects toworry about, no midi...pretty simple by todays standards.....but fuk me they sound unbeatable. Now I know all you guys do techno/trance kinda music....but take it from me your music would benefit soooo much from using some lovely analog poly sounds. Analog poly synths give your music that edge which you just cant find from digital or VA.

The only problem I see is that whoever designs and builds them...will rip us all off like they do with the MOOG VOYAGER. I like the minimoog.....but I wouldnt pay $2500 for a monosynth.....your paying a high price for the name.

DS

Tomer=Trance 08.07.2003 08:31 AM

yeah and tommy i guss when the tb's will start to show up in the selling my synth adds they will be very rare and will cost 2000 dollars or so :]
anybody knows what was the original price of the tb when they start making in back in the 80's i heard it was around 300-400 dollars is that true? :P

You would be surprised as to how difficult a polyphonic synthesizer is to make. Its very difficult! Easier in software.

Tomer=Trance 08.07.2003 09:54 AM

well DS your loaded :D it will take me a year for save up for another synth ,i think it will be an analog but dont know
maybe i'll get me a nice modular like the g2 or nord mod 1
what i do know is that it wont be another va
one va is enough for me (dont know why you need 2 ds :wink: )
(well i do know,you like the sound of them both 8)

psynpose 10.07.2003 04:32 PM

303

I think it might be impossible to make something that sounds exactly like a 303, (unless someone spends a huge amount of time and analysis and programs some software to do it) because the parts in the originals are no longer available.

Pete

DIGITAL SCREAMS 11.07.2003 04:02 PM

The Virus is a weird synth! Most of the time it can sound very thin.......but every so often its capable of making insanely phat sounds.

Im starting to wonder whether the first 2 Virus' I had sounded 'thinner' because this 3rd one ive got sounds so much better....pitty its goto to go back cos of claw marks across front :(

Maybe my 4th Virus will be cosmetically/sound great!!

Strange :roll:

DS

Tomer=Trance 11.07.2003 04:08 PM

you know what they say
i hope 3000 is not your lucky number if you know what i mean :D

DIGITAL SCREAMS 11.07.2003 04:21 PM

The problems ive been experiencing with the Virus...im almost certain ts Turnkey to blame..NOT Access :D

DS

Philipp 11.07.2003 08:24 PM

DS,

I'm gonna sound like broken record but dude stay away from Turnkey! In my experience they don't give a flying f*ck unless you're mega-famous.

:lol:

Parts no longer available -> Can't use same schematics.

You could make a 100% TB303 but you'd have to make new schematics. But of course everybody would still say it doesn't sound like a "real" TB303, but hey, they're just plain stupid. H?h?h?.

And my answer to the original question: Virus, because I haven't tried any other analog/VA synths.

I think there will be a inner circle joke "If it makes noise, Tomer plans to buy it". Hoho.

Wow! 300-400 dollars?! For a piece of cheap toy?! Holy cat's carcasses! Well now I'm very comforted when I realised that some people pay over 1000 dollars for that piece of plastic junk nowdays. Poor lads. Don't know what's quality. H?h?h?.

Edit: And remember people: Moog is NOT for trance. The first one to use Moog in a trance track will have slight head injury from my Valhalla's Warhammer.

Tomer=Trance 12.07.2003 01:55 AM

yeah
im also planing to buy the world -alot of noise going on here :)
and sky is the limit (or is it now? ) :twisted:

:D

and about moog and trance ,i say it can be done! :)

One of the fattest synths i've ever used is a Oxford music OSCAR. Heard their about to release it as a soft synth.

EDITED: Cuz my spelling SUCKS
