Fookin' NICE setups there, Bro!

Love it, great gear, very well laid out and orderly. Kick ass!

:)

plaid_emu 04.09.2008 02:43 AM

Thanks mang. I spent a lot of time morphing this setup into what is is now. I'm finally just getting around to making some new tunes after a few years of trying software synths and learning how to use DAW software as opposed to hardware I've used since I started in 96' in high school. It's been a long road and an interesting journey but I still gravitate to hardware for some reason.

I'm still wanting to use Ableton and my other synths at home to make samples to load in the MPC and take the Virus and the MPC etc. in the Gator case for playing gigs.

when all your gear ist standing outside ... what's in the safe down there ? ;)

lukas412 06.09.2008 08:08 PM

Damn that's a very sweet setup. I love a nice powerful portable setup. How you liking the 500? Ive heard good and bad.

Luke

My new setup:

Mackie Hr824 MKII
Mackie Big Knob
Mackie Control Universal Pro + Extender
Lexicon MX200
Solid State Logic Duende PCIe
Access Virus TI Desktop
Waldorf Blofeld
Native Instruments Kore2
Native Instruments Komplete 5
Steinberg Cubase 4
Tone2 Gladiator
Tone2 WarmVerb
MUON TAU2
M-Audio AXIOM25
Novation SL61 Remote (Automap)
MOTU 828mkIII
Dell 3007wpf HC 30"LCD (2560 * 1600)

And room treatment with Auralex wedges (still saving up for BassTraps)

Upgraded my computer to ASUS P5Q Pro with Intel Q9550 + 4GB of OCZ Reaper.

Thanks mang.

Concerning the 500......You've heard right. Like most gear there's good AND bad. Even though the LCD and the interface is kind of cramped it still kicks ass to have massive capabilities in such a small footprint. Getting maximum firepower for minimal cost and space has been the ongoing theme of my setup lately.

This must be one of the more honest studio pics:

I really should tidy up that place...

I like the secret compartment for your Virus. :D
Is the XL-7 getting any love? Fun sequencer and good workflow on that machine.

There´s more "secret compartments" under the Virus ;) The XL-7 isn´t really getting much attention. I rarely use the sequenser in it, just the synth if at all. Used it alot earlier but my workflow is much faster on a PC and i hate all the menus...

Ahhh, this thread still exists and there are some nice setups! :D
Here's my contribution. Jost got a new stand for my JD and did some rearranging...

awsome studios !!!

more porn please :p

QuadraF 23.10.2008 01:49 PM

I agree!
Some great studios in these pictures.. i really enjoy these threads, not so much because i lust after gear. More so because i enjoy seeing how everyone has their workspace setup. Helps me improve mine, very inspirational

Saying that though. Looking at these pictures has made me remember how much i still want to get a Waldorf Microwave XT

Khazul 23.10.2008 02:22 PM

Setup as of 9 months ago

Nothing much has changed apart from this lot and some bits being moved slightly

Rest of studio here

Get a Blofeld instead. They´r cheap and you will get both a Q, a Microwave XT + more...

F5D 24.10.2008 08:11 PM

Yes. The Blofeld is very nice and gives you almost all of waldorf's digital synthesis but somehow I still prefer the sound of XT. It has a more powerful, "older" sound.

Timo 26.10.2008 01:21 AM

Fantastic control rooms F5D and Khazul! Darn nice bits of gear in there. :D

Like the lighting Khazul, the RGB colour wash is new, where's that coming from?

Will take a pic of my set up soon.

Anything to do with the D/A converters? Maybe running the Blofeld through a bit-crusher might dirty it up like the XTs. Not sure what bit-rate they originally used.

I used to like the slightly overdriven 'power' of my Trinity's Moss in certain circumstances, and wondered why the Virus lacked that certain je ne sais quois when replicating the patches on there, and I eventually found I was actually (digitally) clipping the Moss slightly inside the synth - except it was later masked by the internal processing effects further on in the chain - but it was that process that gave it the perceived oomph in that case. I then started using the digital clipping in the saturation stage on the Virus for a similar effect. Who'd have thought it, digital clipping being sought after!

Thats from some RGB soft spots - we have a dmx controlled lighting rig in here that puts many small clubs to shame (the little silver controller in front of the decks) ;)

In all there are 4 RGB spot/washes, 2 lasers, 2 moving heads, 2 scanners, 2 8 way pixel boxes and a smoke machine/hazer all under dmx control from that little controller or from the computer via lighting software im writing. Oh there a 30cm disco ball as well :)

Wondered what that was. Get that smoke machine on and lets see some pics!

Got a couple of lights and a smoke machine too, but no scanner fancyness - a couple of moonflowers (NJD Blitzers, although my mate has nicked one of them, along with the smoke machine, b*stard) and a prism based moonflower (Abstract Hypermoon). Haven't used them for years though. I used to work at NJD, although they've fallen by the wayside (as have most other companies) due to the influx of Chinese imports.

Now that sounded fun :)

Timo 18.11.2008 05:19 PM

Awesome. Mirrorballs are great, aren't they. I used to sit a moonflower or two in front of a ball and it'd immerse the whole room 360º with twisting/turning coloured light beams. Amazing in smoke.

Seeing as I don't use it now I've placed it strategically next to the windowsill so that when the sun enters the room it casts sun spots all over the room during day time. A nice cheery ambience. No smoke, of course.

Damn, wtf do I sound like, talking about mirrorballs, ffs!

Great pics. :)

Khazul 18.11.2008 06:01 PM

LOL - I like my mirror ball :)

The modern LED scanners are mostly like the old moonflowers - so they work great with mirror balls :)

Apart from the two lasers - all of the lightig I actually use now is LED - have a few older 150/250W scanners kicking around upstairs.

Just wanted to share my studio pics....which are already old as the Waldorf Blofeld is changed into the Virus Snow....and the MoogerFooger MF-102 changed into a Rocktron Banshee 2.... :

My old studio setup where I made music and did my music podcast

But that house had a damp basement so I got out of that place and am renovating a new studio. So till then... I've got a small and simple setup.

while all the gear is in storage... I'm using this setup to keep me from going musically insane.

oh thanks, forgot to mention that i did build up the racks and desks myself, as i found it too expensive to buy a proper ones from the store.

it was only a days work to get those done. some panels still unfitted into the racks but they look great to me :)

microCharles 12.03.2009 04:26 AM

Jani, you have a quick list of your gear?

I noticed a Supernova, Polar, MicroQ...
