I just went to Access' site and read the words see you at NAMM! At last we hear from the Staff (albiet one sentence)! Keep the one-liners comming access!

MADSTATION 13.01.2005 07:32 PM

That would be great!

I'm starting to get desperate hah

Bjorktribe 13.01.2005 07:32 PM

Well three sentences, I guess 8O

MarcTale 13.01.2005 07:46 PM

So, here it is!

Interview with Marc Schlaile in the German Keys Magazine from January 2005:

Keys: Where are the advantages of the TI-Series in comparison to the earlier solutions?
M.S.: The TI goes much farer that a Virus C and conventional Midi- and Audioports can do.One of our goals was, makin the advantages of Softsynths accessable to Hardware. That?s why we created the VirusControl-PlugIn, whose help with the Virus is getting the Midi-Data.
All Soundadjustments will, as it?s in virtual Instruments, be stored with the Track.
The Circle?s closing, when you?re sending Subgroups to your Computer-System. It?s feeling like a real Software-Instrument in your Sequencer.

Another goal was, to open the I/O-Hardware in the TI for as many possibilities as possible., also the Audio- and MIDI-Interface for the system.
On the way you have a complete Ministudio with the TI and a Laptop.

Keys :Which Sequencers are compatible with the PlugIn and how?s it with the latency?
M.S.: We try to be compatible with every VST- and AU-Application. To get the best performance, the host should have Delay-Compension for PlugIns, because a delay on the way to the Virus and back is of course there. But most hosts have delay-Compensation or they?re working on that.
The connection Virus TI/VirusControl has a sample-accuracy timing.
We use the LTB-Protcol (Linear Time Base) , which is also used in Steinberg Midex 8.
So it?s sure, that a chord is not in single tones on after another as in Midi, but exactly at the point on the same time.

Keys: Which USB uses the TI?
M.S.: We use USB 1.1 with 12 Mbit speed, with full USB 2-Compability.
We have 4 Audiostreams at the moment, plus the possibility one Stereo- In and Out to use as an Audio-Interface.
In a later OS it will be possible to adjust the bandwith more flexible. So there might be 4 Stereo-Audiostreams from the Virus into the Computer-system, if you?re not using the Audio-Interface.

Keys: Is it possible to use other Audio-Interface next to the TI-PlugIn for recording?
M.S.: Most hosts can only use one Asio- or AudioCore-Hardware at a time. The same is with the Virus TI as an Audio-Interface. But it can be used as a PligIn in combination with other Audio-Interfaces.
We made our own driver a it sends our data a different way.

Keys: Will there be a cheaper rack-version of the TI again?
M.S.: It could be done. But we think, most of our customers like using the knobs and sliders. There?s no plan for that at the moment.

Keys: Will there be the Upgrade-possibility for former Virus users? What about PowerCore- and Pro-Tools-Versions?
M.S.: We can?t do that. We recommend, to give back older Viruses to the Shops, also to use Online-Auctions.
The Virus TI uses 2, with a very fast Bus, combined DSP. We have to find out, which aspects of the Virus-TI Soundsynthsis can be brought to the named DSP-Platforms.

I hope everyone understands that!

Marc

SoundzplastikSurgeon 13.01.2005 07:55 PM

Thanks Marc !

MADSTATION 13.01.2005 07:58 PM

"We have 4 Audiostreams at the moment" <--- Does this mean that they plan to have more in the future?

What do you guys think?

MarcTale 13.01.2005 08:02 PM

Yeah, it does mean that :
They have now 4 Mono (or 2 Stereo)-Streams and in a future OS the will have 8 Mono (i think) and 4 Stereo-Streams, when you?re not using the Audi-Interface.

Marc

Right ther it is! maybe up to 4 stero audio streams. Don't forget that means 8 Mono!

Thanks for the article :D

MarcTale 13.01.2005 08:10 PM

But I still don?t get why they just have USB 1.1!
USB 2 would have been much more effective (think of the amount of streams).
Someone on the Access-phone told me it would have been too expensive...
Hello??? I think everybody would pay a hundred $ more for maybe 10 Stereo-Streams (I heard 24 would have been possible with USB 2).

But I think they will wait for the TI-2 (or TI-XL...)

Regards

Marc

Bjorktribe 13.01.2005 08:26 PM

I just posted the same argument as you in the studio equipment discussion. . .

"Has anyone else been wondering why The USB2 spec is being picked up so slowly? It may cost extra money to put in a unit but I think people aren't going to mind paying for something that isn't already being outdatted. :? "

I dont get it either, but it would be nice!

SoundzplastikSurgeon 13.01.2005 08:45 PM

I really don't think that usb 2.0 is that much more expensive.

For crying out loud, they mention that due to their lower manufacturing costs they are able to offer the viruc classic for cheap. It might have nothing to do, but why not put that extra cash into usb 2.0. for the TI series ?

What next, usb 2.0 in a couple of years when everybody will be firewire ?

Sorry I feel bitchy...

MADSTATION 13.01.2005 08:50 PM

I feel the same way.

That's why I wouldnt be surprised to see an updated version in 6 months...
And I really don't feel like buying a 2nd TI in 6 months you know lol

u4ia 13.01.2005 09:19 PM

I'm just hoping we get our TI version 1.0 by six months

Merlot 13.01.2005 10:15 PM

Not that much longer till we find out more for sure. About 6 more days.

Targon 14.01.2005 03:24 PM

P?lAR Ti

BOO - USB 1.1 (Deceptive marketing)
BOO - Shitty feeling keyboard (still)
BOO- Camouflaged LED's
BOO- Ugly overbearing White
BOO - Wood Panel
BOO - No X/Y Pad or Joystick
BOO - Still lacking in assignable knobs

Ti hrm Tragically Insufficient BOOOOO

So now can u go back to the factory and make a Silver one with Black or Dark Blue text, knobs, wheels and highlights with a Blue LCD and Blue LED's so we actually see?

Why can't Access just make a machine exactly like the design of the TI Keyboard with 3 octaves minus the Wooden side panels instead of an ugly white elephant which makes all the controls difficult to see?

SoundzplastikSurgeon 14.01.2005 03:30 PM

MADSTATION 14.01.2005 03:56 PM

I have to agree with Targon haha

Even tho I ordered a TI POLAR, I don't know what ACCESS was thinking with the white leds and light gray pots lol

scr 14.01.2005 04:08 PM

I m sure that the white leds will rock !!!!
Sound Hot like Hell Design cold like ice !!!!
Total Incubation

MADSTATION 14.01.2005 05:43 PM

Yeah well I believe that access had their reasons to put white leds...I'm just afraid that white on white isnt the best option, but still its a detail ;)

Blue leds would have been cool!

What colour pots would you like? Silver? What colour indicator line would you have?

scr 14.01.2005 06:39 PM

My KS Rack has red leds with bleu lcd screen on allumininum colour body.
when dark comes my Ks rules over all my studio :)

MADSTATION 14.01.2005 07:42 PM

Well since I plan to tweak the pots quite a bit, a darker color would have been more than welcome since I don't wanna leave stains on the pots!

Unless I wear gloves when manipulating the TI :D

scr 14.01.2005 08:27 PM

Using gloves while you are manipulating Viruses is normal !
do you really want to be infected ?

Bjorktribe 15.01.2005 06:11 AM

Have you ever looked at white LEDs? They're friggin brite! 8) I don't think you'll have to worry about not seeing them. And grey pots? So long as you're not colorblind and can see in more than 2 dimensions, you'll see those too!

Besides, How awesome will that look in the dark? Blue is more and more common and tends to hide text on control surfaces. White will look like its daytime above the Virus. I think its a good chice and certaintly a style of their own. Why else would you spell Polar with a Zero? :D

Maybe along with the special Polar "Gloves" we will need specialized access polar "sunglasses" to shield us from the shiny white led lights. :)

u4ia 15.01.2005 02:40 PM

Merlot, you do have a knack for picking the most interesting avatars. This latest one, I feel like it draws me in and I can't escape or look away, almost hypnotic :)

Good to see fellow Mac users on here, hopefully it isn't the AU version of the TI plugin software that is holding things up!

Is Virus Redback a good value ?
what do you think of this Indigo2 special edition ?

I wonder if im not going to buy one if Access stay silent during the Namm about the Release date........

Maybe I should wait a little linger even if we don't know anything more after the Namm.
