Gotta love it dark and dingy! Nice Blay.

Usually I just work by the LED glow as well - although the 2 17" screens chuck off a bit of light too.

Yeah there really is no need for lighting with a couple of lcds hanging about. In addition to the 17" lcd and the 15" powerbook you see in the photo, I have another 17" lcd which I run dual off the powerbook (it is currently on loan to a friend), and my housemate just bought himself a 15.4" pc lappy - so all up we have two 17" and two 15" lcds...
gotta love the pixel playground :D

I figure if I can see the dust on my gear it is too bright to work.

cheers

Timo 28.06.2005 12:28 AM

Nice one! :)

How do you like your Prophecy?

PS > Blay, just noticed, your studio looks wicked, man.

I'll have to get my ass sorted out. As soon as I get a new music-computer sorted I'll post pics.

Tomer=Trance 28.06.2005 08:49 AM

isnt the Prophecy a pysical modeling hybrid?
that should sounds interesting, whats your feedback on this?

Dugmac 28.06.2005 09:32 AM

To be honest the prophecy is something I'm wanting to replace. Not because it's sh*t, just because it's something that is on load to me and came without the manual. I can't find the manual on any websites so never got my head round it.

The presets are pretty good, quite dated now though. Just wish I could use it to it's potential.

would you mind telling more about it? artchitecture and single flow.
i would love to hear some stuff done with it.

blay 28.06.2005 01:06 PM

[Korg Prophecy Basic/Players Guide - 3.4mb]

[Korg Prophecy Parameter Guide - 12.8mb]

I have the 6-voice Moss (Z1) board for my Trinity and find it to be very transparent. A good compliment to the characteristic and very unmistakable 'Virus' sound. I just really wished Korg made a successor to the Z1 as the basic sound is absolutely rock solid and very flexible - and I absolutely love the idea of the Physical Modelling and VA hybrid, a great concept - but I guess the Z1/moss sounds would pale a tad when compared to something like the Clavia G2 now.

The OASYS-PCI board (not to be mistaken with the new OASYS workstation) was a big step up from the Z1 as it has more DSP for greater realism and power, and included even more physical models when compared with the Z1, but the problem is only Windows98se is supported as the OASYS-PCI has been discontinued for a good while. The sound quality is ace from what I've heard, though, so I'm even considering buying one off ebay and then grabbing an older computer to run it on standalone!

Otherwise, I really hope Korg make some spin-offs from their new OASYS workstation, like a hardcore standalone synth (like a Z2) which does away with all the other unneeded OASYS frills. I know that Korg will add physical modelling to their OASYS workstation at some point, as they're reknowned for the time, money and effort they've pumped into R&D on physical modelling over the last couple of decades, so I just hope it does splinter off into a new dedicated synth.

COME ON KORG!

Back to the Prophecy, I heard that because it's a monophonic synth they dedicated more DSP to that single voice on the Prophecy than they did for each voice on the 6-voice Z1, thus the Prophecy is deemed to have a richer and more powerful sound when both compared in monophonic mode. The Z1 just adds polyphony/multitimbrality and a few more physical model algorithms.

There's some nice demos of the Prophecy here:

...click Prophecy to go to the Prophecy section, then click Download, then MP3

Nice setup Dugmac! :D

Great to see some more pics being posted.

Dugmac 29.06.2005 08:26 AM

Wow, Timo, you're a legend. Thanks!

Well i guess I can give you a better run down once I've been through the manual a few times...

Here's an update of mine...

vvanrij 09.09.2005 09:42 AM

I notice alot of you guys got Virus B instead of a C, is there any particulair reason for this?

-VR

Analog Warriors 09.09.2005 09:49 AM

i love the architecture of the b ... IMHO it sounds warmer than the c

Tomer=Trance 09.09.2005 11:31 AM

its all in your head, the B and the C are the same.

vvanrij 09.09.2005 11:43 AM

Hmm, might buy meself a virus b next to my c then, I'm gonna test it today :)

I think thats what the ;) was all about...

I think he is just yanking our chains.

In response to vvanrij, I have a VirusC....maybe we should have a poll? Would be interesting to see who has what.

vvanrij 09.09.2005 11:48 AM

Ow lol, so I don't have to go to the store today haha :)

Would be fun to have Virus B + C + Ti hehehe, though I think I'l have to wait on me Ti a little while longer (maybe 45 days!!! ahahha :D )

-VR

Gopal 09.09.2005 09:44 PM

I have a B because I could get it for so much less than I could get a C. There isn't enough difference between them to warrant an immediate upgrade IMO. I might even keep my B when I can finally afford to get a TI because I believe they will be completely different sounding machines

ten 10.09.2005 06:46 AM

Cant quite fit it all in, a rack with fireface and other kit is to the right. The evo mk-149 sits where the virus TI will.....cabling is a lot tider since pic was taken.

jasedee 10.09.2005 07:41 AM

Biggest pic EVER ten...hehehe.....

Any chance of resizing it? btw, nice looking setup! I've been wanting to get a CD deck for ages now...but the CDJ1000's are still too damn expensive

ten 10.09.2005 07:45 AM

Ah yes, I forget everyone else is on dinky computer screens :P

These are cdj800s, got em for ?250 each from USA, they go for about ?450 here so made a bloody good saving.

They are very similar to cdj1000s, missing only a couple of features but costing a fraction of the price, well worth looking at and great for home use.
