Hang in there Bill. Yes, the TI still has a few quirky issues, but even so, I find it to be bounds better than my virus c . . . and the TI is only going to get better.

So does it work in standalone mode?

Mine works like a dream...maybe you guys need to look at your system specs or hardware you use...

It's like Ben said, this thing is a very complex piece of hardware...too complex. This thing absolute baffles me. I mean I'm familiar with tweaking all the parameters being a previous Virus owner, but the problems are so fluid on this machine. Honestly the best version I had was the Beta version when it first came out of the box. The thing was working like a dream (in standalone mode anyways.) Then after the first update, which I did shortly after owning it, things just started getting weirder and weirder. Ben asked someone if they can even get it to work in standalone mode...well I can't for one...anymore. Last night I tried reverting back to OS 1.03 and then everything really went to s**t. Sounds changing by themselves, frequent random outbursts of screaming digital noise, every sound whether in multimode or singlemode was panned to -64 on output 3L, etc. So I don't know. It's not worth the hassle. Yes my tracks would sound better with this machine, not just for it's sounds, but for the inspiration it provides. I loved tweaking my old a,b, and especially the KC. But alas I'm not a rich guy and can't risk the money for something that may or may not be fixed. And for anyone who's curious, here's my current setup:

RME Multiface
Edirol 8x8
Allen & Heath PA12 Mixer
Kurzweil K2500
Nord Modular
Nord Lead 3
Yamaha Motif ES7
GT66 Tube Mic w/TC Helicon VoiceWorks Vocal Processor
Event ASP8s
3.4Ghz PC running Windows XPsp2, 4GB, 2XRAID0
Nuendo and Waves 3

Also have an Apple PowerMac G5 single 1.8 Ghz running Logic that I don't use much anymore.

That in itself is very weird. The current OS is much more stable than the one it shipped with.

Ouch - that doesn't sound good.

After the update, did you do a reset? Try 1.05 again, and once it's done, pull the power cord out, and hold down Arp Edit whilst you plug it back in.

If it is still behaving as oddly, I suggest you may well have a faulty unit.

Good luck...

guyur 30.10.2005 12:08 PM

Yeah I did a reset after the firmware update. The crackling went away, but then all these new problems starting cropping up. It seems like even when doing a reset that bits of old software are hanging about in the machine which could explain why things are progessively getting worse. Or it could just be that I have a faulty unit. I really want this thing to work. Is the Arpedit thing a complete factory reset or is there another reset mode? Anyways, I'll do a reset then install 1.05 and do another reset. Cheers.

It's as powerful a reset as you can do. It won't restore RAM patches or anything, but everything else is set to default.

Bill, first why don't you try and get a replacement one from your distributor, it might be a faulty unit.
