Just got back from SAE. :D

So guys, the Virus TI really exist and it absolutely rocks. I had the chance to play the TI kb and polar. Really nice. I know it's a really long time but it is really worth the wait. Hyper saw+square osc is the fattest osc I ever heard. Nice sounding at upper and lower registers. Internal sync is phat. The wavetables are nice indeed(drawbar, throaty, cluster, chords, landing). BC has some nice patches programmed. I really like that choirbell patch. I spent like 3 hrs at access booth with Marc :) . He was very helpful, went over everything. TI is working with logic and cubase, they had both of them opened at the booth. I'm pretty sure it will be working with DP, protools and others. The illuminated logo at the back is really nice, too bad they could'nt put one of them on the tabletops. Public soundbanks includes manuel schleis, tiesto's soundset , Ben Crosland's patches are very nice and many other banks. Importable wavetable are not available with the current OS. The editor is not standalone and it is very easy and fast to use. Making your own arp will be mad easy with the editor. Dynamic patch allocation is pretty good, I was playing with some preset that has high release and heavy reverb on it, then I change to a different patch it went on forever. About the release, he could'nt give any specific date, but it will happen pretty soon.

The spectralis synth is another kickass synth.

BTW, BC where were you? :)

In contrast to previous Virus models, the TI doesn't change the sound when you change patches until a new key is pressed, and even then, the release phase and reverb/delay tail of the previous sound still fades out underneath the new sound.

DS

PS- Congratulations on the new arrival!

technomonster 05.06.2005 04:32 PM

hey ben,

i am still pretty much a newbie, so sorry for this dumb question.

i am using logic audio 5.5 on PC . I GUESS THE TI will also work smoothly with that and not just LOGIC 7 AND PRO on MAC.

is that so?

i dont want to change as i beleive the interface of 5.5 is perfect to look at and really helps not to distract one from music making.
plus i want to spen money on the TI and not another computer.

tranzash: Thanks for the report in the TI. So the editor has to be in a host to work? Sounddiver worked as a standalone so I kind of expected the new editor to be as well.

ps. Congrats Ben!

tranzash 05.06.2005 06:01 PM

Merlyn, Welcome to the forum :)

I think you need the host seq to open the editor. BTW guys, Polar is the sexiest looking synth out there. About the virus control, You have like 25 to 30 banks to program the CC to control the softsynths. I was going to buy the doepfer's drehbank or pocket dial, but you are limited with 4 banks of presets with doepfers or I could be wrong. Hyper Subs can go pretty low end with the analogue 4pole. We were playing with some sub patch, both of the woofers and marc's powerbook were shaking  You need like a whole day to go through the patches, lot of them. Lot of the banks are not complete either, lot of init patches. Illuminating logo will be handy for live use with other performers to keep up with the tempo. All of you polar and Kb guys, lucky bast. With Hyper saw+sq and Wavetables -You have a whole new Virus.

Thanks for the welcome. It's appreciated. :) Ben, can you confirm that the editor is or is not standalone?
