no, the virus always generates the sound.

ditto on this one, analog outs sound better to my ears. It could just be as simple as introducing artifacts (desirable or otherwise) through cabling as well as the quality of the audio device used and it's A/D converters, and I'm sure there are plenty of ways to make the analog outs sound crappy, but there's something to be said about the way the sound is coming out and how it gets back into the box. I cannot speak however for what the actual process is of how USB audio is transmitted and what kind of things can degrade the signal, not intentionally, but just through the process of getting in the computer...jitter? quantization errors? Beats me.

you guys believe what you want to believe. as long as you can choose what you think is better everybody should be happy, eh ;)?

for those who are intrigued you can perform an easy test and judge yourself. setup virus control and use the virus as your main audio interface. create a test sequence of your choice and listen to it through the USB1+2 outs and then using the TI as your soundcard. this way the signal makes a roundtrip from the TI to your computer and back again. to make a A/B comparison, just hit the Direct Monitoring button on Virus Control which will send the signal straight to the virus' outputs.

best, marc

the thing is, doing this negates the main reason why people are noticing a difference; using the virus with a different soundcard, running the analog outs into that other soundcard's inputs then a/d converters is probably where the most interesting things happen.

it makes sense though that the virus isolated on it's own should be pretty much identical from usb to analog outs on it's own.
