Hi langer,

I can understand you. I also didn't get that out until now.

I must complain here one thing :
---
I really do not understand why a company like Access can build such beautiful high-class hw synthesizer, but do spent so less effort in the documentation? Whats about a synthesizer that is so powerful, but the most people use just 30% of it because the rest will not be understood for normal user (not experts) because so less documented.

E.g. I bought a snow. The quick reference you can forget. Then there is a online reference for the snow where things are just explained as a software programmer would do (Function xy = This is the function to do xy). And this reference covers not even all menues of the snow.
You have there another online documentation, but it is for the big virus ti. So you can begin to wonder what in this documentation is the same as for the snow, and what does not apply to it.
---

In case of recording through USB:

Up to now I record via sound card where the audio out of snow is connected to the line in of the sound card. It is not really intelligent to that because you have a DA and then a AD conversion without need. But so far.

Yesterday I bought a new DAW (MAGIX Music Studio, maybe only known here in Germany). Its totally new, so did not come to that point.

But I made a simple test without a DAW/sequenzer. I just play the snow via midi keyboard and tried to record that via Audacity. When I select the audio input device there is really one called "Virus TI Audio 2.8.14". But nothing is recorded if I do while playing on keyboard.

It may be related to the settings in the COMMON menu called "Surround". But whatever I configure here (E.g. USB1 L+R or USB2 L+R) nothing changes. It could be that I am completely wrong here, and USB audio can only be returned in sequencer software. Hope I will find that out learning more with the Music Studio. ;)

BTW, also with the new DAW it is not possible to record the audio via USB when a midi track is played. There are no data coming from the only selectable audio recording device called:

Input (Virus TI Audio 2.8.14)

As I noticed from this forum, it should be possible. So does anyone know how the virus (snow) itself has to be configured that this works?
E.g. I have 4 individual parts at the snow to control via DAW/Midi, but I only have COMMON surround menu settings of: USB1 L+R, USB2 L+R and USB3 L+R.
So what to configure here, and what about 4 parts and only 3 USB audio?

I'd like to know as well, how to record it.
Only way so far was using Silverspike Tapeit, but that's just a workaround, which isn't what I want.

you can record the USB inputs like you would record any other VST instrument. consult your sequencer manual for further reference.

Hi Everyone

My first post. :D

I just wanted to help with this thread if possible.

I’m not sure that I’ve understood the problem correctly, but I can either “bounce” or “record to an audio track” any of the 3 USB inputs.

I am using Logic Pro 8.02. I bounce / record them exactly as I do any other VI. For example, I play back an existing MIDI track to “play” the TI while also recording an audio track (bussed from the output of the TI) and all works well. The only thing I cannot do is freeze the track, but that is a well documented feature.

Is this what you are trying to do, or have I missed the point?

Best regards

@tyronhowe
Thank you for posting ...

I assume this works automatically in your Logic? I mean did you explicitly selected an audio device before recording your midi track to another track? If you look at the settings/details of this audio track: What is selected as audio recording device?

> ... record to an audio track any of the 3 USB inputs.
Did you configured something at the virus for that part of the midi track that you recording? Does the settings of the COMMON surround menu are of interesst at all? I did not found any other related audio device settings at my snow.

I use Cubase 5.

I load the Virus Control VST. Cubase prompts me to make an "instrument" track for it.
I then create additional midi tracks number 1 through 16 to control each part. The output for these tracks is set to the Virus Control.

Once that's done, I go into Virus Control and go to the very last tab on the right (I use OS 2.7.5 so this may be different if you're using 3.0). There is a drop down menu here that allows you to select the output. I set this to USB1+2.

This works fine to control the Virus over USB with audio also going over USB.

Hello NoLie6

Ok – automatically is not quite the correct word. This is what I do:

1) Create a software instrument track for the TI. Record some MIDI into it.
2) Reroute the output of Virus TI track to (for example) Bus 1.
3) Create a new stereo Audio track.
4) Change the input of the Audio track to be Bus 1
5) Place Song Position before the MIDI data starts and press record.

If you want to record from outputs 2 and 3, then after setting up the two extra Aux channels in the mixer, make sure their output is routed to Bus 1 (or whichever bus you’d like).

My audio device for all of this is an Edirol UA-25. I do not use the Virus as an audio device.

In reply to the last part of your message, I didn’t have to do anything on the Virus Common page. The only time I touch the VC during this example is to select the patch per part, and route the output of the part to USB 1, 2 or 3.

Thanks for posting guys.

I think I give it up. I've tried so many things without success, with only a more frustrated feeling, cause I found out that there are so many configuration parameters where something can go wrong.

The most complex and difficult thing is manly the routing topic.
I often read about ASIO drivers to use. So it did select the listed Virus ASIO drivers. But the DAW itself provides ASIO drivers. No success with both.

The problem is that if I do not connect the virus snow (real) audio output with the line in of my sound card I will not here anything. I see that there is something played at the volume panel of the track, but I do not here anything. Same is if I record this track: The recording is empty.

I think it makes no sence of further discussing that here. Every DAW is different. The only thing that helps is finding someone out there that is using the same DAW with a virus, better with a virus snow.

Anyway, thank you.

Maybe its worth your while to invest in something cheap but useful like a Tascam US 122 or 144 USB 2.0 Audio/Midi interface.

I use the Tascam as my ASIO driver in Cubase 5, and when not in cubase, just run the L and R outputs of the virus into the inputs so I can just jam through the monitors.

Should solve some of your issues regarding routing and ASIO conflicts, and make it easier on you as a beginner.

I am now assuming that my build in soundcard () is not able to work bidirectional which I read somewhere that is required!?! But the virus snow should be itself a bidirectional soundcard.

Although I do not unterstand how a soundcard is involved here. Because everything should be virtual between the DAW/sequencer and the virus snow (over USB) and in the PCs memory. The DAW sends midi signals via USB to the snow, which calculates the sound and returns it digital via USB to the DAW which record it e.g. as WAV. I would think that I even need no soundcard in the PC because in order to hear the sound I can connect a amplifier/speaker to the real audio output of the snow.
