What is this thread about? Umm.. dunno. But I'm ording one of these tomorrow:
http://www.thomann.de/gb/hagstrom_deluxe_2h_sls.htm Was this or the Epi Les Paul. Tried one of them last Thursday and it was useless. Blech! Nope. The research has been done. It's a Hagstrom for me then superstardom via the - ah, yes, that's what this thread was about - my not yet formed Hawkwind-type band thing. |
Blimey Mat, looked at it and thought "that's gorgeous, bet it costs a bomb", but not so. Very nice.
Anyone seen the new Moog Guitars, with infinite sustain and/or muted decay? [http://moogmusic.com/moogguitar] A snip at $6,495.00, beh. |
Hiya mate
Cracking the flags here. Got back from a weekend in the country here tonight burnt and mozzy-bitten. Yikes. That Moog guitar looks wicked. Bit out of the old price range just now, so settled for the Hagstrom. Ordered it tonight from Thomann. I got a registered sole trader licence too, so I can deduct the VAT at source - 22%. Yay! Shipping is just 20 €uropes. Check out this new "Robot" Gibson. Videos are funny as fekk smashing up a Strat. What marketing! http://www.gibson.com/RobotGuitar/Ro...deoVoting.aspx |
yeah yeah, everyone's got a Hagstrom or Moog in the cupboard! My mid-life crisis sports car was a Mex Tele. Spent just enough money to convince myself that I suck at most things.
But the big question is ... what amp are you going to use to crunch those perfect tones into 60's psychedelic rock distortion? Would a preamp do it? Could you expect one of those new fangled VST plugins to do it? I suspect you need to overdrive the push pull valve output stage to sound that bad. And blown speaker cones add that extra buzz. Cheers, B |
Mate. I'm using Amplitube 2 with an RME Multiface. My old cooker is a P4 2.4 but I get zero latency with it and Sonar if I freeze every guitar track. I can't run more than 2 instances in Sonar simultaneously, which does piss me off as I'd like to play with my kids and their guitars at the same time.
I used Guitar Rig for a while, but it's not a touch on Amplitube IMHO. I had a Line 6 Pod and also a Guitar Port 2 years ago, but they weren't up to much and you couldn't tweak the sounds after a take. Edit: I've got a 28 year old Laney 30w combo (my oldestest baby) and some foot pedals here for playing with a band. Wah, tremelo cutter, echo unit. |
I don't think pods and foot pedal amp effects are up to much either. And I'm not in a hurry to explore software amp modelling. I'm sure its great, but my wallet can't take much more of this. Yes, you can have loads of customized amp models at the click of a mouse, but how does one favourite preset compare to the physicality of an amp? I suspect that its the imperfections of the electronics and speaker bin and then the microphone into the desk which sounds good, not the overdriven audio iteself.
I could be wrong on this one (unusual for me I know) so what do you think? B |
