When you load the song, do the sounds 'look' the same in the VC?

Actually I want to take back what I wrote earlier - I just ran a series of tests where I load up a sound in the TI, record a midi track in cubase. Play it back - works great. Close the cubase song and then reopen it and the sound is muffled and distorted. I then load the same exact sound into another part in the TI and compared all pages and nothing looked different at all for all of the settings. This happened with just about every sound I tried it on.

Well, on the face of it, this looks like it might be good news - hopefully it's just a transmission problem, rather than a screw-all-your-hard-work problem.

Have you checked the Preferences>MIDI settings in SX3?

Doc Jones 13.11.2005 09:22 PM

yeah, I did recheck all my midi settings and didn't see any filtering or odd settings checked that possibly would cause this. Do you think I should try a full reinstallation of cubase? My concern is that I have a lot of other programs that rely on it (trilogy, rmx) and they are running fine (just don't want to mess up the rest of my system as it took a considerable amount of time to get it stable.

I wouldn't like to make that call on your behalf ;)

I have heard that reinstalls can make a big difference, mind - a friend of mine who works extensively with Acid Pro reckons that the majority of problems faced by users are sorted out by reinstalling it..

yeah, I think I will give it a shot. This way if it still doesn't work and I have to give Access a call, I'll have already covered the majority of the bases.

ok, latest update
9. Uninstalled Cubase SX 3.1 and reinstalled it and all updates from scratch - still have the same problem.
10. Tried a different usb cable - still have the problem.
11. Checked all midi settings and usb settings - everything checks out - still same problem.

looks like I will be making a call to Access when they open on Monday. :?

Wait a minute - could it be specific patches that have a problem being recalled by cubase sx 3.1?? Without going into the new series of tests, I was wondering if someone could confirm a specific sound.

If you use the virus TI with Cubase SX 3.1 please do this quick test and tell me what your results are.
1. Create a new song in cubase
2. Load the virus TI virus control in cubase
3. Create a midi track in cubase and assign the output port to the virus TI (virus control port)
4. Load up the sound Syrys BC - found under Rom A 098
5. Create a 4 bar loop (mine was at 120bpm) and just record a quick loop using the Syrys BC sound, no need to make tweaks to the sound.
6. Playback the song and make sure it sounds fine.
7. Save the song, close the song and then reopen the song in cubase.
8. Hit play - Does the Syrys BC patch sound the same - on mine it sounds all detuned and distorted.

very odd!

Doc, basically I have a bank file with two saves of the one patch. Once I saved it with 1.05 the other time 1.06.

I can drag and drop the second save (1.06) onto slot 8 with a fresh open of VC over an init patch and get a stupid sound, nothing like the real thing. If its slot seven it loads alright. The save from 1.05 loads into slot 8 ok. If during the same session I drag an init patch to slot 8 and drag the suspect patch (1.06 save) onto slot 8 it loads fine.

There definately is some wierd stuff changed in 1.06 from 1.05 re wrongly saved patches in VC.

I will post the bank with the two saves soon, when I get a bit more time.
