i saw a conference made my apple and they compared a bi-proc G5 and the most powerful Dell Xeon based PC, i forgot its name... and there was a huge difference, when i say huge, it is really HUUUUUUUUGE.
They played back a track on cubase on the PC, it started crackling after few seconds. On the mac, it played the track clearly with no interruption at all. They used (for both machines) the integrated sound cards, not pro ones.
They rendered the same 3D image, on the mac it took around 1m30s, on the PC it took 4minutes... etc etc

Isn't Xeon an "old" processor?

I just tried to google comparisations for the new PC and Mac systems and didn't find anything reliable. Why on earth there's only two kinds of test: The ones in which Mac is twice as fast and the ones in which PC's are twice as fast. Really annoying.

No, its a special server-orientated Pentium4 processor. You can have up to 8mb of L2 cache (as opposed to the Pentium4's 512kb).

hatembr, got links for those reviews? I've mainly seen stuff that shows the G5 edges slightly behind top end x86 systems. The benchmarks on the apple website are strongly biased, however.

So what do you Mac-users come up with to exlain this...

http://service.steinberg.net/knowled...2?OpenDocument

Or especially...

ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/fwd/performa...erformance.PDF

I have used both a Mac (in my studio) and a P4 2.8GHz PC for home-studio use and I prefer the PC. There are certain advantages with both and I do like the Mac, just prefer the PC that's all.

unfortunatly no, it is a video clip i watched on my friend's PowerBook... he showed me it while he was trying to convince me that mac is better :)
i'll ask him the name or the subject of the conference again, may be we can find links to it...

Im sorry but Dell just does not use quality parts...there r 2 in this house...and they r not mine...good thing...all those prebuilds use r oem junk...and not even good oem...and who cares if there is more cache on the Xeon if it is not made for the damn reason u r using it for it will not work as good...for example say u get a dirtbike and a snow mobile and u see they r both a one to two seater motorized vehicle...now lets throw them both in a dirt field...who do u think would win...

Heres one for all of u mac ppl...i talked with the lead professor in the music department of my college...and we were talking about macs....becuase i noticed that they were running just macs...and he told me they bought them because mac gave them a special deal for being a school...then he turns to me and says...i would never by the computers again...they were the worst mistake he'd ever made...

My point being there r points to either side and u can fudge any performance test...they are both made from the same factories in tiawan...so who gives a shit...if u want mac get a make if u want pc then go with a pc... i dont know about u but im plain sick and tired of keep that damn fight going...

The only reason i like pc is the fact that i can by from many different stores and manufactures...and with mac i cant...i have to by from mac in a mac store...this is why they r expensive...because with a pc there r alot of competitors ones either going for price and others going for quality...thats the way its always been...so price drops and drops...also the fact that something new comes out almost every week...

And up pops joe outtta nowhere....

I got used to this mac. Between the two kinds I feel there is no difference in the actual use, clicking, ect. Mac has become much more like PC since osX (hey that's a marketing trick to lure the "gen-x" crowd. Fucking always hated that word. Fucking "X-games". Fuck.) Sorry. It does come down to personal preference. More than likely you are not going to use your PC in comparison to a Mac. You will just use the PC and vice versa. These benchmark comparisons are useless. I like the Mac because it is easy to use and I know there are no hidden files anywhere if I were to get rid of a program. This airport is quite fast too. Wireless instantly...

OMG 8O

...and I thought the flame wars ended years ago... ah well I guess some people just don't grow up.

It's like comparing Saabs to Audis, innit? They look a little different but they'll both get you there in the end, don't they?

Or more likely I have to hear someone else confirm that spending tons of cash on a piece of HW that's gonna be obsolete before I boot it up was a good thing.

.h?kan (spoiling all the fun)

In the end i am going to have to agree with crea...well put...
