Some new news!!!
From what my distributor tells me... The trucks are now having some sort of GPS software conflict too, and may have to go back in for more beta testing. 8O Will the TI ever ship? Will the TI part of the TI, really TI? Will the paint on the trucks ever dry? Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of.... Fuck the customer! And no you can't use this catch phrase Access. I know DS sold out for a T-shirt and all, but it'll take more with me. :D All in good fun by the way guys. |

man you would have to think that access would get tired of all the calls and emails about bad marketing and unhappy customers. So far my experience with access music has been shite. First virus I bought had faulty hardware and now this for the 2nd attempt to buy. The thing that sux most is that I already bought the TI and I payed for it in december. Access admit it! you guys got in over your heads with this one...

I hope access rewards its faithful preorder customers with a deserved reward for their patience  cheers blay |
Yep!
Hello Access - USB2 would be nice. With enough Audio-Outs... Regards MarcTale |

MarcTale...The hardware was finalized a while ago so there is no way that this will happen for the first version of the TI!
I agree with you tho, this would have rocked. |
Yeah I know!
Please just let me dream on...... Dreaming MarcTale |

:D "6 months" is subject to change of course. Do I hear 8, no 9, how about 10?! |
Lets just hope what happened to the Kurzveil VA1 doesnt turn into a TI issue.....
People are still waiting for the VA 1 to be released....and if memory serves me correctly....that was 'announced' back in January 2004. DS |

Im going to upgrade from a powerbook to a new pc desktop over the next couple of weeks - should keep my GAS at bay for at least a couple of months till the TI arrives  cheers blay |
did access ever make an official statement regarding upgrading from usb1 to usb2? Meaning, at some point down the road if they do implement usb2, will the original ti owners be able to upgrade (ie buy some sort of optional card) so that we can now utilize the bandwidth of the usb2 spec?

how else will they be able to drum up sales for the TI2? cheers blay |
Yes, sadly I think as the TI OS grows....the limitation of USB1 will become all the more apparent. Afterall the TI is an exceptionally powerful synth beast......
Having said that, the Total Integration aspect wont be used by me. Im happy to use analog outputs the good 'ol fashioned way. The insane polyphony, hypersaw, wavetables and delay+reverb are what I'll be using most. An additional filter type would also be very nice. How about a TB303, Jupiter, Prophet and Oberheim filter. Now that really would cover some sonic ground  DS |
Well put it this way. If it became apparent that USB1 was not fast enough for future features....then one would legitimately have to ask why it was implemented in the first place. Especially considering that USB2 nowadays isnt exactly going to break the bank...

Ben, am I right or wrong in thinking the TI can stream 16 channels of audio over USB? Ive heard people talking about it doing 3 stereo pairs or 6 mono..... So whats this...either 3 or 6 part multitimbral over USB? Why not the full 16?
The truth is...the USB thingy wont be of much use to me initially as i tend to use analog outs. I know there was some discussion on this sometime ago....but im a techno newbie and all these facts and figures dont mean a whole lot to me  DS |
It was two stereo to begin with but then marc bumped this up to three depending on samplerate/bitrate I think. Even though it would of been nice to have all 16 over usb2 or firewire. Three is a bit wanky considering you have a 16 multimb synth.

I dont want to dissapoint anyone (anymore than they already are)...and I know you guys dont put much faith in Distributors, but I recieved this info in an email from the 'president' of Bananas.com:
Quote: "By the way, we have been told June at the earliest for the Virus - - apparently their first operating system did not meet expectations, and they are in a re-write. the hardware, it seems, is ready to rock." I ordered and paid for my T.I in December :( Royalston |

This does add a little bit to my concerns... Undoubtedly the TI-2 will have an upgraded spec. I really do hope that the USB1 is not some kinda built in design limitation just so they can market the TI-2 as being more powerful. Because.....as much as I like Access and their synths....I would just find it so unacceptable that I'd probably never buy again. Put it this way....its only a matter of time before the model is superceeded.....and this seems to be part of the company's vision. Im already beginning to think about waiting for the enevitable TI-2 purely because I can already see a few niggling things which will later addressed. Does anyone share this concern? Dont get me wrong, I still believe the TI is the dogs bollox......but the longer one waits...the more one can pick it to pieces. DS |
OS rewrite
If true, that would explain quite a bit.

I dont know about you guys....but with the KC I always felt it was not quite the synth i wanted it to be. Namely....needed a bit more poly and wanted delay *and* reverb......
ok so I sold it for much needed money at uni..... Now im waiting for the TI to materialize (and im sure it will in time). The TI does represent a workstation synth....theres no doubt about that. However, despite all the great new features of the TI.....it yet again 'just falls short' of what I'd consider to be the perfect synth. Wouldnt it be nice if Access could just get it right with the TI and not bring out some kinda MKii version in 2-3 years time... You guessed it guys.....DS is pissed off.....im just having my rant. Ive got a nice cup of shut the fuck up brewing......so I'll leave it like that. *Still think the TI is da dogs bollox though. And the USB1 thingy doesnt bother me at all as I dont have any plans to use it. Im just worried Access will bring out the MKii version with the upgraded spec once the current line of TI's are sold. Hence.....I dont particulalrly want to be the first group of people to get the TI. DS |

....Otherwise if the TI-2 has the additional bandwidth, second hand prices of the original TI may not be good for the seller (seeing as, in two years time, making music solely with computers will be even more prevalent than it is now, and hardware keyboards will perhaps have a more tough time being sold second hand - especially with more inferior integration than they could easily have otherwise have had. This could have been Access' last chance to make a storming hardware synthesiser, who knows?). For example: How many (even brand new) standalone USB v1 soundcards sell well today? Which follows that, how many USB v1 soundcards will sell well in two years time?..... The TI is a great synth, otherwise. Kicks ass. The only other shortfall, in my mind, which I would've loved it to have had is a ribbon or XY-pad controller for different modulation effects other than just linear knob twisting. You know, I really honestly can't believe that Access haven't taken the opportunity to improve in this aspect with each incarnation of the Virus, right from the Virus A. It's an expressive synth, but there aren't many expressive "real-time" controls to take advantage over it, and it just hasn't been improved in this area. At all. ...Imagine controlling the wavetables with a ribbon controller by stabbing at it in different places with your finger (as opposed to smooth knob-transitions), or modulating this to another parameter like filter cut-off for gated/stuttered effects. If it had pressure sensitivity you could modulate filter cut-off in the X plane (left to right), and resonance in the Z (pressure) plane. Heaps of potential expression, all with using one finger. |

I know this has been done a million times over but here is a message I just recieved from sweetwater.com:
I got this message from my purchasing agent last week and figured you would want to see it: Virus TI ETA has been pushed out based on the below message: 04/20/05 From Geoff Farr @ GSF Agency "I met w/Access in Frankfurt during the trade show. Since they have missed a couple of ship dates they were reluctant to give an ETA, but out of my meeting w/them it is my opinion that the TI's hopefully will ship in 4 to 6 weeks." jag I tell you what if I come back from Hawaii, May 26th, and that puppy is not here I am more than likely going to cancel and get a bunch of shit off of e-bay. |
Quote:
(PS > Of course, if it has customisable/importable wavetables I'd forego the shortcomings, hehe. ;) ;) ) |

access are reluctant to give promises on shipping dates that they know they will only break.... if this info in regard to a possible total OS rewrite has any validity then I think there is a chance we will be waiting for at least another 3 months :( cheers blay |
They are totally rewriting the whole OS?
|
http://www.thomann.de/iw_smb_suche.h...HBEGRIFF=virus
the wait is fuckin' too long, it's unbearable. check musikthomann. i guess we will get the gear earlier in europ? than in the US. |
I called Thomann and they just forgot to change their information about the shipping date.
So everything?s back to "never"... :? MarcTale |
fuuuuuuuuuuuuck
|
expect the worst and anything else you get is a bonus... :?
there is no way you will see access admitting to a full OS rewrite. cheers blay |
